Mayor of Veleño, Jesús Lupiáñez, announced, together with Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez, the completion of important renovation and conditioning works at the El Tomilar Dog Park, including the relocation of furniture, the addition of external areas to prevent collisions with animals and improve traffic flow, as well as replacing materials in areas that were visibly damaged by rain.
These actions were in response to the requirements received from regular users of the park in recent months, with whom several meetings were held to address their needs.
The environmental department of Vélez-Málaga carried out a series of recovery and conditioning actions at the El Tomillar dog park, in line with the requests made by residents and agreed upon with municipal technicians in various meetings. Following relevant feedback, the park was reopened to the public on February 11th.
Specifically, dismantling of the irrigation system on the park slope and relocating furniture to the ends were carried out to address concerns raised by users due to traffic discomfort and potential pet-related incidents. The total investment in improvements amounted to 7,800 euros.
Additionally, the replacement of materials in traffic areas, a major concern for residents, was highlighted. The dusty and unstable pool area, posing risks for animals, was replaced with compacting sand to eliminate dust and central dividers were removed.
The El Tomillar dog park, strategically located and in high demand for improvements, had to be closed due to heavy rains in December which particularly affected traffic areas, making them impassable and at risk of landslides.
The environmental department of Veleño responded to residents’ and users’ requests for improvements at the park. The works were aimed at conditioning the facilities for the correct use and enjoyment of citizens.
Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, along with Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez, commended the completion of essential works at the park to enhance infrastructure and services for users of all ages. Jesús Pérez, Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, emphasized the importance of such parks as meeting places for neighbors and pets, and ongoing efforts to enhance safety and comfort based on user feedback.
The history of this green area in Torre del Mar has seen previous actions to improve the environment through employment promotion plans. However, recent weather conditions have accelerated damage affecting the dog park and pedestrian areas.
