The City Council of Vélez-Málaga has announced the completion of the works related to the renovation and conditioning of the green areas located on Calle Rioja and Doctor Laureano Casquero, both in Torre del Mar, two important actions to adapt these locations that are part of the set of improvement projects undertaken in accordance with the Plan for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PFEA), in terms of the Environment.
The local mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, appeared this morning, together with the deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, to positively assess the completion of two projects that «represent a substantial improvement in green spaces in our municipality» and that add to «a series of important actions that have been carried out and are still ongoing» based on the PFEA funds, through which around twenty locations in our municipality are being conditioned to serve the users.
The person in charge of the Environment Department also emphasized «the effort we make from the Government team to provide our city with quality infrastructure and equipment for its use and enjoyment», in what «we work day by day», mainly with a dual approach: «Our main focus is to identify the different deficiencies or issues and act accordingly,» he said, giving «equal importance to offering our neighbors all our available channels for them to present their demands or requests regarding any issue they need to resolve in their environment.» The purpose is more than evident: «We work for them and appreciate their participation in this process of improving our municipal area,» Lupiáñez emphasized.
Regarding the interventions carried out, the deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, stated that these are «two important actions that will improve two green areas in Torre del Mar and respond to the needs and demands of the residents.» The municipal councilor emphasized that, in the case of Calle Rioja, it is «a very busy park where work has been done to make it more accessible and safe,» and with respect to the green area of Doctor Laureano Casquero, «the pathway was in poor condition after the rains, becoming impassable,» so «action has been taken to improve the transit of people who use it daily, who are many.» In general terms, Pérez Atencia highlighted that «these actions contribute to improving the accessibility and quality of public spaces in Torre del Mar, making our green areas more comfortable and functional.»
Demands from residents
Regarding the work carried out in the two areas of Torre del Mar, the allocated budget amounted to over 100,000 euros, funded by the PFEA for Environmental projects in 2024. Municipal representatives were present at the affected site at the intersection of Calle Rioja with Avenida Moscatel, which had areas of unpaved transit with different irregularities due to rainfall. The improvements made in this green area consisted of leveling and preliminary grading of the land, replacing the sunken and deteriorated curbing. Finally, a colored albero stamped concreting was carried out on the entire transit area, resulting in optimal conditions for user interaction. The execution time was approximately eight days, with an investment of 67,692 euros.
The action carried out in the green area on Calle Doctor Laureano Casquero essentially responds to the demands made by the users and residents of this location, which once again «highlights the work we carry out and want to continue doing in line with our citizens,» emphasized Jesús Lupiáñez, as a result of which an intervention was carried out in a space where a dirt transit path was created due to the continuous movement of users in the area. The condition of the path was deteriorated, exacerbated by the presence of rain, so due to the irregularity of the layout, a garden curb was installed at both ends and replaced with colored albero stamped concrete.
Additionally, pipes were installed underneath it for future actions when implementing an irrigation system on this green surface. 180 square meters were concreted bordered by 120 linear meters of curbing. In this way, the path will cover 60 linear meters with a width of 3 meters. The total cost of the works was 33,523 euros.
The local government continues to work on the improvement and conditioning of green areas in the municipal area of Vélez-Málaga, with some of these works already completed, and others in progress or in the process of being resolved, as reported by the mayor of the municipality during the visit to the works carried out on Calle Rioja and Laureano Casquero. These interventions are part of the PFEA for Environmental projects in 2024, with a total investment for Vélez-Málaga of 659,290 euros.
