Inicio de trabajos de urgencia para recuperación del carril de la Culebra en Torre del Mar.

The deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, along with the Councilor for Infrastructure of the City of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús María Claros, and the councilor responsible for Beaches, Alejandro David Vilches, appeared this morning to announce the start of urgent actions on the Snake Lane, located on the well-known beach of «El Mortero», next to the dog area, in order to mitigate the damage caused last November by the exceptional rainfall resulting from the DANA, which caused the overflow of the Vélez River in its lower course.

Pérez Atencia expressed his satisfaction at the beginning of the works, stating that they are essential for the recovery of this environment, especially after the exceptional rainfall from the DANA that caused the river to overflow, resulting in serious damage to the locality. The overflowing waters affected the protection embankment, accumulating water to the point of breaking the protective dune, affecting the public road known as the Snake Lane.

The massive overflow and dragging of water caused the complete disappearance of a 60-meter stretch of road, completely destroyed, evidenced by a large crater, according to Pérez Atencia. The reconstruction for the well-being of our neighbors required urgent intervention, reflecting the commitment to our neighbors and their needs. Although this was an urgent action, it was delayed due to the necessary permits.

The arrival of the DANA to our municipality significantly affected the eastern side of the Vélez River, reaching the protection embankment of the urbanizable sector SUP T-12, progressively damming behind the protective dune of the beach. The dune rupture occurred suddenly next to the public road known as the Snake Lane, which runs to the CN-340 road, serving, among others, the dog beach of Torre del Mar. The severity of the situation prompted urgent action, as the massive water outflow caused a 60-meter section of the lane to disappear, resulting in a large gap.

The action taken in this area, according to the Councilor for Infrastructure, consists of restoring the affected road section with similar characteristics to the original, involving foundation work, earth movement, repair of damaged infrastructure, paving, and protective systems.

Councilor of Beaches, Alejandro David Vilches, mentioned that the damage caused by the DANA in the area of the dog beach of Torre del Mar has been significant, and the priority is to recover this emblematic space for the enjoyment of our neighbors and visitors. He emphasized the high number of users on the dog beach, highlighting its importance as a key meeting point for many families with pets.

Vilches expressed his gratitude to Jesús Pérez Atencia and Jesús María Claros for their dedication to ensuring the swift recovery of this area, as well as acknowledging the team’s effort in ensuring that the beach is in perfect condition for Holy Week, a crucial time for tourism in our municipality.

The urgency of the works, stemming from a catastrophic situation, allowed for the contracting of the works through an emergency procedure, as specified by Jesús María Claros. The budget allocated is approximately 100,000 euros, with a 2-month execution period, assigned to the company Transportes Antelo, S.L.
