The municipal delegation of Resident Foreigners presented today at the Tourist Office of San Pedro Alcántara the program of events that will run until the month of May, with more than a dozen appointments organized in collaboration with different international communities. The advisor in charge of the department, Remedios Bocanegra, has pointed out that in Marbella there are more than 56,000 registered foreigners from 153 nationalities, «who enrich us with their presence, culture, traditions, and gastronomy.»
The first of the events will take place this weekend, March 15 and 16, with the celebration of the National Day of Ireland (Saint Patrick’s Day), in the Glorieta de la Fontanilla de Marbella, organized by the association of this country on the Costa del Sol, led by its president, Terry Mckinley. «It is a festivity that is gaining more and more popularity in our area,» pointed out the municipal representative, who has announced that «the event will feature music and typical food from this country, which has 639 registered residents in the area, although the actual number of Irish residents is higher.»
For the 16th, a benefit day for Ukraine has also been scheduled on the Boulevard of San Pedro Alcántara, where the concert of ‘Los Iankovers’, a Colombian band with links to the European country, will take place. The initiative, organized by the Maydan Málaga association, «will help us learn more about our culture and traditions,» emphasized the president of this collective, Natalyya Moshchenko, who thanked the City Council and the city for their support to their community «in these difficult times we continue to live through.»
On the other hand, on May 10, it will be the turn of Paraguayan residents (2,256 registered in the municipality), with the commemoration of their national day at the Glorieta de la Fontanilla, an event that will also include «music, dances, history, and gastronomy,» as detailed by Nancy Haidee, representative of this group in the municipality and host of the program ‘Sin Fronteras’ on Radio Televisión Marbella. «We have grown a lot in recent years and we want to showcase our culture and traditions,» she pointed out.
The Fontanilla will also be the venue from May 16th to 18th for the 1st Cuban Festival of Marbella, a community with 442 registered members. «It is an event that has been successful in other areas of the Costa del Sol,» stated Moni Kabana, a member of this group in Marbella, who expressed that this event, «given the difficult situation in our country, will help us preserve our identity.»
Bocanegra also announced other events scheduled by the council for the coming months, including a talk on registration aimed at the Nordic population (March 27); the Gaucha Party at Arroyo de la Represa Park (April 4-6), the presidential elections in Ecuador at the Palacio de Ferias and Congresos Adolfo Suárez, where a polling station will be set up (April 13); a day to carry out procedures at the Embassy of the Philippines, also at the multipurpose venue (April 26); an English conference on traffic regulations for the international community at the Hospital Real de la Misericordia on May 8, a setting where the celebration of Europe Day will take place the following day.
