The new roundabout, at the intersection of Camino de Algarrobo, La Niña, and Arroyo Romero streets, is aimed at the necessary reorganization of traffic in this location. The installation of new lighting, sanitation, supply, irrigation, and telephony will also be added.
The works to be carried out, which have already been put out to tender for companies to submit their proposals to the project until the end of the month, have an allocated investment of 294,839 euros, with a completion period of 4 months.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has announced the tendering of an important intervention that will significantly improve traffic circulation on Camino de Algarrobo, which provides access to the El Romeral urbanization. In this case, it involves the creation of a new roundabout at the location, a work of «vital importance» that will allow the reorganization of the intersection between this enclave, La Niña street, and Arroyo Romero, an area that often experiences «a significant flow of traffic from residents and visitors.»
With this intervention, the mayor has highlighted the «commitment of the local Government to provide the best road conditions for residents and visitors to Vélez-Málaga,» continuing with «the detection and resolution of the various actions required in parts of the municipal area that require necessary improvements and conditioning, for various reasons.»
The works to be carried out on the accesses to El Romeral also include the installation of new lighting, sanitation, supply, irrigation, and telephony networks. Therefore, equipment content will be provided in an area that requires adaptation for safe and functional use by the population.
Lupiáñez has emphasized that this is a project of «utmost priority» for traffic management in an area that generates significant traffic flows in the vicinity, so «carrying out this type of action, such as the installation of a new roundabout in this case, represents an important step towards facilitating vehicle traffic,» a measure that, as highlighted by the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, «is always considered to address the increasing volume of traffic in our municipality, thereby increasing the safety of drivers and pedestrians.»
The Infrastructure councilor, Jesús María Claros, has also commented on the main purpose, «to give fluidity to an essential traffic artery, combat congestion, and make this road area more functional, structuring a less chaotic and more organized traffic flow through a roundabout that will regulate circulation and manage the density of road traffic.» In any case, this new roundabout will indirectly facilitate pedestrian traffic in this area of Vélez-Málaga.
The reorganization work at the intersection of Camino de Algarrobo, La Niña, and Arroyo Romero streets, whose execution has already been tendered, and for which offers can be submitted by interested companies until the end of this month of March, covers an area of approximately 2,000 m², and is of great importance «due to the average intensity of vehicles,» as it is located near Vivar Téllez avenue (main access to the municipality).
Strategic axis
On the other hand, Camino de Algarrobo is the street that circumnavigates Vélez-Málaga, in its East area, connecting with the La Pañoleta industrial estate, or the El Limonar urbanization, as well as containing the intersection that provides access to the municipality of Arenas. The reorganization works entail, as Jesús María Claros has pointed out, an «extremely important» impact in a location «with a high traffic flow and different connections in the municipality.»
The work that will be completed with the installation of this new roundabout is a fundamental part of the comprehensive reform of this entire area, which already had a significant impact with the recent inauguration of the first phase of the reurbanization of Camino de Torrox, a project that is one of the cornerstones of the current Government team.
The execution period of this intervention, at the intersection of Camino de Algarrobo with La Niña and Arroyo Romero, is 4 months, with an allocated budget of 294,839 euros. This work confirms the progress made in road infrastructure. «We will continue, day by day, working diligently to provide our residents and visitors with the best conditions for using and enjoying their municipality, facilitating their daily and non-daily travel routines as much as possible,» concluded the municipal delegate for Infrastructure.
