The Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training has received a total of 48,455 applications to participate in this year’s competitions, of which 92% are from applicants in Andalusia and the rest from other regions. This was stated by the councilor at the closing of the XVII Regional Conference of the Andalusian Association of Directors of Infant and Primary Education and School Residences (ASADIPRE), held under the title ‘Leading in the face of educational challenges’ in Torremolinos (Málaga).
In this regard, the councilor expressed satisfaction with this participation, which contributes to the stabilization of the public teaching staff in the Andalusian educational system, particularly that of teachers, which will continue to improve diversity.
Likewise, María del Carmen Castillo informed that a total of 33,000 positions in various teaching bodies have been called since 2019, «a firm commitment by the Andalusian government to consolidate the teaching staff of the Andalusian educational system, despite the decrease in the number of students.»
Castillo also explained that for this year a total of 7,808 positions have been called for the bodies of Teachers (4,401 positions), Secondary Education Teachers, Music and Performing Arts, and Official Language Schools. Additionally, this year also sees the selective process for the Body of Professors of Music and Performing Arts with 77 positions. Thus, by 2025, the Department has called a total of 7,885 positions, providing an opportunity for all young people in Andalusia aspiring to be teaching civil servants.
The role of school leadership
On the other hand, the councilor highlighted the fundamental role of school principals in achieving the educational success of students and praised the work they do across disciplines and specialties. In this regard, she noted that school leadership teams are «the most direct link» between the educational community, teachers, and the administration, representing it in educational institutions. «It is clear that where there is a good school leadership team, there is a powerful institution that offers quality, attention to its students, and families,» she said, adding, «we appreciate your daily efforts to solve a myriad of problems of all kinds.»
Likewise, the head of Educational Development and Vocational Training pointed out that the Junta is committed to an educational project based on freedom, equality, and quality, recognizing excellence and valuing effort as an essential element in the educational process. In this way, the councilor indicated that the goal is to reach as far as possible, «but at the same time, we work to ensure that no one is left behind.» «We must offer students equal opportunities to access quality education, and guarantee them, their families, and teachers that academic performance will be determined by effort and ability, regardless of their social, economic, or family background,» she stated.
Furthermore, Castillo mentioned that «we have great challenges ahead, undoubtedly, but we are determined to face them with firmness and political will.» Therefore, the Department is always open to a process of fluid, permanent, constant dialogue, and at this point, the contribution of school directors in Infant, Primary, and School Residences in Andalusia is essential.
