Finalización de las obras de reurbanización de la avenida de Colón en Torre del Mar.

With this intervention, we have expanded the sidewalk and also added tree planting pits, improving both the aesthetics and functionality of the space. We will continue to work to meet the demands of our neighbors, with a commitment to continue advancing in the improvement of Torre del Mar.

The first deputy mayor of the Vélez-Málaga City Council and deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia; along with the councilor for Infrastructure of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Jesús María Claros, reported this Wednesday morning about the completion of the reurbanization works on the Avenida de Colón in Torre del Mar. These actions are part of the Agricultural Employment Promotion Plan.

In this way, Pérez Atencia stated, «we called this press conference to inform about the completion of the works carried out under the Agricultural Employment Promotion Plan (PFEA) in Torre del Mar, especially on Avenida de Colón. As we announced previously, these works were very necessary due to the poor condition of the sidewalks, in some sections lacking them, which was a problem for pedestrian traffic on a street that is the main access to the east beach.»

In fact, the councilor continued, «these interventions were requested some time ago from the Deputy Mayor’s Office, and thanks to the collaboration of the Infrastructure area, they have been carried out very successfully. With this intervention, we have expanded the sidewalk and also added tree planting pits, improving both the aesthetics and functionality of the space. We will continue to work to meet the demands of our neighbors, with the commitment to continue advancing in the improvement of Torre del Mar.»

The councilor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, reported that «the completion of the culminating works, integrated within the framework of actions corresponding to the renovation and conditioning of infrastructures and facilities in the municipality, based on the Agricultural Employment Promotion Plan (PFEA), of the ‘decisive intervention’ carried out on Avenida de Colón in Torre del Mar, consisting of the conditioning of the sidewalk to comply with accessibility regulations, and in order to preserve ‘a comfortable and functional use for the population, in an environment of frequent pedestrian traffic.’ The works carried out have amounted to an economic amount of 118,248 euros, with a period of 4 and a half months.

The municipal councilor, present this morning for the launch of ‘this important action for the users and residents of the area,’ as well as for the usual traffic flow of this location, mentioned that this is one more of the projects that have been carried out in recent months corresponding to the funding awarded to the municipality in the 2024 exercise within the PFEA, in this case corresponding to the Infrastructure segment. In this line of action, work has been carried out on ‘an area of 450 square meters, with the provision in the tasks carried out of 45 laborers and 8 officials. ‘We continue to work to provide our neighbors and visitors with the best conditions for the use and enjoyment of their infrastructures and facilities, and that is why we are here today, to announce the completion of a new project that will bring a very positive impact for all pedestrians, with a renovation of sidewalks and pavement that are deemed very necessary,’ detailed Claros.

The municipal Infrastructure manager emphasized that these works were ‘highly demanded by the residents of Torre del Mar,’ for which ‘we have acted as quickly as possible to make it available to them to the extent that the procedures have allowed us,’ and therefore, ‘we have been able to repair a pedestrian area where the pavement of the sidewalk was old and irregular and required repaving for the general well-being.’

In this sense, he technically specified ‘the conditioning of the sidewalk, which did not comply with accessibility regulations due to its narrowness,’ as a result of which ‘the current pavement, including the curb, has been demolished to a depth level that has allowed the extension of a 30 cm layer of selected soil, A1 type concrete curb, 10 cm of HM-20 mass concrete, and 40×40 terrazzo tile with wave design in blue color.’ In addition to the tasks carried out on the road, taking advantage of the work situation, the drinking water supply pipe has been replaced.

Likewise, Jesús María Claros indicated the location of tree planting pits to accommodate medium-sized trees, a differentiating element to provide shade and which is added to the set of works carried out on Avenida de Colón, ‘another example of the firm commitment acquired by Infrastructure and the local Government to provide all the optimal conditions for the correct daily development of our residents.’
