The initiative, promoted by the Youth Department, aims to teach young people born between 1995 and 2011, registered in Vélez-Málaga, about the appropriate and functional application of the exercise routines they usually carry out in their daily lives.
Interested individuals can register in person at the Youth Municipal Office, or online through the youth.velezmalaga.es electronic platform, from 9:00 a.m. on May 5 until all spots are filled. The cost, subsidized by the Veleño City Council, is 20 euros, with a limit of 30 participants.
The Youth Department of the Vélez-Málaga City Council constantly designs new proposals and original projects aimed at the young population of the municipality. Providing content for the leisure and free time of citizens of younger ages, in this case, those born between 1995 and 2011, has become one of its main priorities. Within this framework, an original training workshop entitled "Improve your workouts" has been planned for May 16 and 17, with a duration of 15 hours focused on sports training preparation.
Alongside various training programs for employment and professional development, including aquatic rescue courses or leisure time monitor courses, and the Alternative Leisure Excursions 2025 plan, the Department promotes new avenues for sports, culture, and leisure for young people. Following learning sessions on video games from Educagamer or educational sessions on sexuality from Educajoven, an activity clearly connected to the correct practice of sports emerges. In this case, a practical workshop will be held to provide young people born between 1995 and 2011 with technical concepts and tools for an appropriate body exercise routine.
"There is solid scientific and medical evidence on the harmful effects of sedentary lifestyle, lack of activity, and physical exercise on health. Sedentary prevalence in Europe is high, and Spain is one of the four most sedentary countries on the continent," detailed Youth Councilor Lourdes Piña, who presented a Youth Department initiative today. "Given the firsthand knowledge of the problem by international health institutions, medical associations, researchers, and health professionals, and the direct negative consequences, we urgently need preventive strategies like this," she emphasized.
The purpose of this workshop, with 30 available spots and a cost of 20 euros (after Veleño City Council subsidy), is to prepare young people on the main principles of proper functional training to condition their sports routine efficiently. For this, Piña explained, "The Andalusian Clinical Health and Exercise Association (ASEFCA) will provide the pedagogical guidelines for the training sessions on May 16 and 17."
