El presidente de la Junta visita Priego de Córdoba

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, visited the Ayuntamiento de Priego de Córdoba where he met with the mayor, Juan Ramón Valdivia, to discuss matters of interest to this Cordoban municipality.

The Andalusian government maintains a strong commitment to Priego de Córdoba, as evidenced by the inauguration of the new Las Angosturas bypass, which contributes to local development. This project has been a historical demand in the region for over fifty years, with an investment of more than 13 million euros. It enhances safety and connectivity, providing direct access to the industrial estate of La Vega.

Numerous efforts have been made in the educational field, with close to 2 million euros allocated since 2019 to improve infrastructure and educational materials in the municipality’s schools. This is complemented by a significant focus on vocational training.

Furthermore, there is a strong focus on the agrarian sector and olive groves, which play a significant role in the area’s development. The construction of a new reservoir, with an investment of 1.5 million euros, is aimed at ensuring and improving water supply. This reservoir will be crucial for optimizing water resources in one of the most productive agricultural areas in Andalusia.

In addition, support is provided for the protection and promotion of the heritage of Priego de Córdoba, which forms the basis of its tourist appeal and a growing, increasingly solid activity in the municipality. Recently, the Junta declared two cultural events in Priego de Córdoba as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC).

Specifically, in January, the process began to register the Cantos de la Aurora in the General Catalog of Andalusian Historical Heritage, recognizing their value as an intangible expression of popular religiosity and a living heritage of the community. In 2022, the representation of the Prendimiento de Jesús was declared a BIC, highlighting the uniqueness of the Holy Week in Priego.

Visit to the Niceto Alcalá-Zamora House Museum and the Archicofradía de la Columna

Moreno also visited the Niceto Alcalá-Zamora House Museum in Priego de Córdoba, which showcases not only the politician but also the person, the jurist, the family man, the intellectual, and the Andalusian filled with convictions, concerns, and desires for transformation in Spain.

This museum is located in a nineteenth-century manor house, donated to Priego by Alcalá-Zamora’s daughters in 1986. It displays original objects from the politician’s life, along with historical information derived from them and panels with photographs, drawings, and texts. It also serves as the headquarters of the Patronato, where research on the character and his era is conducted.

Additionally, he visited the Archicofradía de La Columna, which has been performing «El Prendimiento,» a sacred theater play on Holy Wednesday commemorating the evangelical passage of the Washing, Last Supper, Prayer in the Garden, Betrayal, and Arrest of Jesus (declared BIC in 2022).
