The ambitious program organized by the Department of Culture for the Book Fair 2025 features a theatrical show that combines poetry, rhapsodies, theater fragments, and music around the figure of Miguel de Cervantes. This journey through the prolific Spanish Golden Age will be streamed worldwide and specifically for the hundred cities that make up the Cervantine Network.
Prior to the broadcast of «Florilegio,» a 2-minute video summary will showcase the cultural, artistic, and monumental offerings of the town of Vélez-Málaga to the world. The event will include reading activities, cultural initiatives, musical encounters, and discussions with local and award-winning authors such as Juan Manuel de Prada and Boticaria García. Figures like Santa Teresa de Jesús, Joaquín Lobato, Salvador Rueda, and Cervantes will be present through conferences, workshops, and talks.
The Department of Culture and Heritage of the Vélez-Málaga City Council continues to focus on projects that stimulate learning and knowledge among its citizens. One of the key objectives is to promote reading habits across all age groups in the municipality, with a wide range of initiatives planned for the Book Fair 2025.
One of the highlights of the event is «Florilegio,» a spectacular show featuring actors and actresses integrating poetry, rhapsodies, theater, and music, streaming live to a hundred cities worldwide as part of the International Network of Cervantine Cities. The event, known as the I Poetry Recital Golden Age, will take place on May 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Casa Cervantes, transformed into a theatrical space for musicians and performers in period costumes.
Councilor of Culture and Heritage, Alicia Ramírez, emphasized the tribute to the Spanish Golden Age and the prominent female figures of that era, like Santa Teresa de Jesús. The live broadcast of «Florilegio» will be an opportunity to showcase Vélez-Málaga and its cultural, artistic, and historical attractions to a global audience.
Actor and organizer of «Florilegio,» Eduardo Roberto, explained that the show aims to celebrate the poets of the Spanish Golden Age, particularly highlighting the work of overlooked female authors like Ana de Castro Egas and María de Zayas.
The Book Fair 2025 will feature a diverse range of artistic events, educational activities, and presentations from May 9th to 17th. Various monumental sites in Vélez-Málaga will host these activities, providing opportunities for learning and entertainment for both residents and visitors. The fair will include bookstalls, with one dedicated to local authors and a space for them to showcase and sell their work.
Esteemed writers such as Juan de Manuel de Prada, Boticaria García, and Antonio Manuel will participate in the fair, enriching the cultural experience for attendees.
