The completed repair and adaptation works have amounted to a total cost of 111,700 euros, an essential allocation to address a significant demand from the local residents.
The project was carried out over a period of 2 months, covering an area of 425 square meters. The funding corresponds to the Agricultural Employment Promotion Program (PFEA), specifically for Infrastructure in its 2024 cycle.
The Councilor for Infrastructure of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Jesús María Claros, announced this morning, at the site of the action, the completion of the decisive repair and pavement adaptation works in the Veleña population of Los Iberos, actions of vital importance in this location of the municipality, as the existing pavement was in poor condition due to its age, leading to a risk of stumbling or falls. To assess the magnitude of the action taken, interventions were carried out on a total of 425 square meters, allowing for the installation of a solid and functional pavement that will contribute effectively to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
In this regard, the municipal representative for Infrastructure and deputy mayor of the area, Jesús María Claros, emphasized «the urgency of carrying out the aforementioned interventions on Calle Los Iberos» and, in general, on the roads in this residential area, as they «had irregular widths and were at the same level, with almost exclusive pedestrian use.» Therefore, the pavement work takes on particular importance, as it will lead to «a noticeable improvement in communications within this population.»
The tasks in question involved demolishing the previous pavement, followed by excavation to a depth that allowed for a 30 cm layer of selected soil to be laid. Finally, a 10 cm layer of brushed red pigment HM-20 mass concrete was applied over the mentioned 425 square meters.
These actions will result in a clear improvement in a road surface already affected by age and wear due to use, so the work on the pavement will make «traffic flow more comfortable and accessible for our neighbors in Los Iberos,» emphasized the Councilor for Infrastructure.
Community Attention
The Councilor for the Area and deputy mayor of Los Íberos did not hesitate to praise the importance of the work, which will allow the streets of Los Iberos to be adapted for functional traffic, a task «that the residents had been demanding, and therefore it was essential to act according to their needs,» which, on the other hand, «represents the line of action by the Council and the municipal Government, aimed at adapting our municipal areas to what our citizens require and deserve.»
The total budget allocated for the pavement repair and adaptation has amounted to 111,700 euros, with a 2-month execution period. The work was carried out by 24 workers and 4 officials. The project is part of the actions within the Agricultural Employment Promotion Program (PFEA) for Infrastructure in the 2024 cycle, which, in this year, provides a budget allocation of 720,530 euros for various necessary works to execute and/or adapt the pavement of sidewalks on roads owned by the Vélez-Málaga City Council, located in the urban area of the Veleño nucleus.
