El servicio de nefrología de Costa del Sol utiliza ultrasonido para mejorar atención renal

The nephrology service at the Costa del Sol University Hospital (HUCS) has taken a significant step towards improving the care of patients with renal disease by organizing training days on the use of ultrasound offered by experts in diagnostic and interventional nephrology.

During these days, organized in collaboration with the interventional nephrology group at Puerta del Mar Hospital, a national reference in the field, professionals were able to train in the use of ultrasound as a fundamental tool to optimize the management of renal diseases.

The focus of the training in diagnostic and interventional nephrology is to provide nephrologists with skills in various techniques, such as ultrasound, to enhance patient care, as stated by the council in a statement.

Doctors Manuel Cebos and Carlos Narváez, nephrologists at Puerta del Mar Hospital, were responsible for training participants in the use of ultrasound to evaluate pulmonary congestion (fluid overload) and assess vascular access in hemodialysis patients.

The conference was attended by all nephrologists from the hospital unit, some healthcare professionals directly related to the hemodialysis program, internal medicine residents, pulmonologists, cardiologists, as well as nephrologists from other dialysis units in different hospitals.

The main objective of this theoretical-practical training was to provide an ultrasound evaluation at the patient’s bedside, allowing for the optimization of hemodialysis treatment by assessing pulmonary congestion.

This technique is crucial for accurately adjusting treatment and improving the quality of life of patients. The LL dialysis unit recently acquired an ultrasound machine that will allow them to immediately apply what they have learned during these days.

Similarly, it was emphasized that the use of ultrasound to evaluate vascular access «is particularly relevant for the development and training of dialysis healthcare.»

The Costa del Sol University Hospital deeply appreciated the knowledge and experience shared by doctors Ceballos and Narváez.

This preparation is essential for expanding diagnostic and therapeutic tools, leading to a substantial improvement in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis and those with advanced chronic kidney disease. The organization of these days also had the direct collaboration of the hospital’s medical director, Aurora López.
