The councilor of the Area, Jesús María Claros, has announced the start of the renovation works on these rural paths to adapt the sections affected by irregularities or imperfections and provide a safe and functional surface for the usual vehicular traffic that circulates through our rural areas.
Specifically, the works have begun on six routes: the Los Herreras and La Venta road (Almayate), from Cajiz to Iznate (Cajiz), from Lagos to Sayalonga (Lagos), from Cerros Beas to the Sedella road (completed), and the La Pola farm plantation (Vélez-Málaga). The estimated execution period is about 7 months and 15 days, subject to possible incidents beyond the normal course, with a total of over 850 meters of concrete works.
The action plan undertaken by the Council has resulted in the repair of over 140 paths in our municipality, to which we now add six new works in the mentioned locations. The local rural network consists of approximately 400 kilometers, which serve our agricultural sector, a fundamental source of wealth for the municipality.
In the chapter of implementing new relevant projects for the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, the Councilor of Agriculture of the City Council, Jesús María Claros, has presented this morning, in a press conference, the start of new works to repair and improve several lanes in the municipal area. These works are integrated into the action plan of the Delegation according to the Agrarian Employment Promotion Program (PFEA) 2024 of Agriculture and respond to significant demands from pedestrians and vehicles that often circulate near these locations. Like many local environments, these lanes have suffered deterioration due to time and usage, as well as the significant rainfall recorded in recent months.
The Operational Services of the Agriculture Area have already started the execution of these recovery and renovation interventions on these roads, located in different parts of the rural network of the municipality. Specifically, these are the Los Herreras and La Venta road (Almayate), from Cajiz to Iznate (Cajiz), from Lagos to Sayalonga (Lagos), from Cerros Beas to the Sedella road (completed), and the La Pola farm plantation (Vélez-Málaga). These six projects add to the over 140 actions carried out to date by the local Government in almost two years of term. The budget allocated in this case is 373,000 euros, and the estimated execution period is about 7 months and 15 days, subject to possible incidents beyond the normal course of work, with a concrete extension of over 850 meters.
In this sense, the responsible councilor has highlighted «the efficiency with which our workers have acted and are acting, especially to solve the numerous incidents that have been addressed. We have a large network of paths in Vélez-Málaga, through which numerous residents and workers transit periodically,» he said, «we are pleased with all the work done, but without losing sight of these new actions, which began last week in the case of Cerros Beas and are now starting in the other locations. This will streamline the flow of vehicular traffic on essential paths for rural cohesion.»
Coordination with residents
In terms of coordination, Claros has emphasized that «we have limited resources, but we make them available to the population, and we are open to listening to them to solve any issues they may detect. We are aware that we have over 400 kilometers of rural paths in our municipality, which is why we reach out to our residents to help us identify those paths that are in poor condition, so we can intervene within the bureaucratic requirements we have to face, which sometimes slow down our ability to solve all the issues we encounter.»
The strategic program of the Agriculture Delegation and the local Government has allowed the repair and recovery of numerous rural paths in the municipal area. Specifically, over 140 actions have been carried out in local channels, all decisive for a sector that is one of the main sources of wealth in our town, hence our full dedication and commitment to providing the best road conditions for the citizens and those who come to Vélez-Málaga,» emphasized the councilor.
The structuring of the rural network of Vélez-Málaga is one of the hallmarks of the work of the Agriculture Department, intervening in numerous rural roads in these almost two years of term, including Las Cabrillas and Las Casillas (Vélez-Málaga), Cortijada Los Padillas (Almayate), La Coronada (Mezquitilla), or Pata Secas (Chilches). Recently, the renovation of the Fortaleza lane has been presented, crucial for the circulation of residents and agricultural workers in the area.
«I have to make a very positive assessment of the work carried out by our technicians and Agriculture personnel, especially regarding the arduous tasks they have had to perform on our roads in recent months, following the heavy rains caused by the effects of the DANA, which required quick intervention in areas heavily impacted by rainfall, even acting on river channels overflowed by water,» the Agriculture councilor pointed out. In fact, some of these public roads, under municipal competence and conservation, have involved a tough recovery task due to their steep slopes, greatly hindering vehicle crossing, especially during the rainy season, due to the gullies formed by water runoff, all to the detriment of the grip of the surface, which has required the concreting of numerous sections.
