End of a historic season. The Unicaja closed an unforgettable 2024-25 season on Tuesday in which the Malaga team managed to win up to four titles: the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, the Endesa Super Cup, the King’s Cup, and the BCL. The team had never won more than one trophy in a single season, making this an unprecedented achievement, bringing the total number of titles in their trophy cabinet to 10.
Behind them are 65 official matches across five competitions, with an impressive record of 49 wins and only 16 defeats (15 in the Endesa League and Playoffs, and one in the Round of 16 of the BCL against Galatasaray). This excellent performance over 10 long months has allowed the team to reach heights never seen before in the Club’s history.
The season began in mid-September in Singapore, where Unicaja, as the champion of the 2024 BCL, faced the challenge of winning the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, a prestigious tournament where many historical clubs worldwide had previously triumphed. There, the Malaga team won all three matches, defeating the NBA G League United in the final by 60-75, lifting the first title of the season with Dylan Osetkowski as the MVP (15 points, 4 rebounds, 16 valuation).
They didn’t have to wait long for their second joy. A week later, in Murcia, Ibon Navarro’s team clinched their first Endesa Super Cup in history after defeating Real Madrid in the final by 80-90, with Kameron Taylor shining brightly (22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists for 29 valuation).
Unforgettable King’s Cup
Months later, in February, Unicaja faced the King’s Cup in Gran Canaria, where after beating Joventut in the quarterfinals (100-83) and La Laguna Tenerife in the semifinals (90-83), they once again met an old rival in the final: Real Madrid. There, the team displayed brilliant play that allowed them to overcome the powerful white team in the second consecutive final by 93-79, crowning Kendrick Perry as the MVP (27 points, 6 assists, 32 valuation). This marked the second King’s Cup in three seasons for the Malaga team, the third for the Club’s trophy cabinet.
Historic BCL
The quartet of titles this season came in the Basketball Champions League (BCL), where the team had the challenging task of defending the trophy won in Belgrade in 2024. To achieve this, Unicaja had to complete a remarkable season where they set a record for consecutive victories in the competition’s history, with 18 wins, remaining undefeated from December 2023 to March 2025, until their defeat against Galatasaray. That was actually the only loss in the entire BCL season, precisely against the team they faced in the title match at the Atenas Final Four.
There, in the Greek capital last May, they defeated the host, AEK Athens (65-71), and in the final, the Turkish team (67-83) to win the BCL once again. This time, Tyson Carter was named the Best Player of the final, showcasing the team’s collective effort (14 points, 5 assists, 14 valuation). By winning the second BCL, the team equaled La Laguna Tenerife and San Pablo Burgos as the team with the most trophies in the competition’s history, being the only team, along with the Burgos squad, to achieve this in two consecutive seasons.
Semifinal Regulars
This season, Unicaja reached their third consecutive Endesa League semifinal, a feat they hadn’t accomplished since the 2008-10 period. To achieve this, they also had to eliminate Barcelona in the quarterfinals (2-1), breaking a negative streak that historically affected the Malaga team, as they had never managed to beat the Catalan team in the 10 previous title eliminations in the Endesa League they had played… until now.
Record-breaking Carpena
It hasn’t been just a historic season on the court. In the stands, the Green Tide continued to offer their unconditional support, carrying the team forward with more numbers than ever. In fact, the average attendance at the Carpena was 9,940 fans in the Endesa League, a historic record for the Club, surpassing the 9,933 average of the previous season. With these figures, Unicaja also solidifies its position as the attendance leader in the Spanish competition, achieving it for the third consecutive season. Undoubtedly, our greatest pride.
Now, the curtain falls on a historic season that will always be remembered, as evidenced by the four new banners already hanging from the Carpena’s ceiling. Thank you, 2024-25!
