The intervention is part of the special operation launched by the City Council of Vélez-Málaga to combat illegal street vending and crimes against industrial property. Thanks to the action of the Local Police, the alleged perpetrator was identified and detained for offering counterfeit products in the middle of the street without any authorization, infringing on the rights of registered trademarks and creating unfair competition for businesses in the municipality.
Among the seized items were 114 counterfeit sports garments, mostly jerseys of internationally renowned football clubs that pretended to belong to well-known brands. These types of articles not only harm legally established commercial businesses but also deceive consumers. The City Council emphasizes the importance of eradicating such practices and continuing to reinforce security and order in public spaces.
Last night, officers from the Local Police of Vélez-Málaga arrested an individual in Torre del Mar for a crime against industrial property, caught selling goods without authorization in a busy public area.
During the operation, part of the summer control measures in different areas of the municipality, a total of 114 counterfeit sports garments were seized, imitating well-known commercial brands and being illegally sold. The majority of the confiscated items were international football club jerseys, unofficial reproductions that directly violate industrial property rights and pose a risk to consumers due to lack of warranty.
The intervention was possible thanks to the active surveillance of the officers who detected the illegal activity and acted promptly to prevent further sales. The alleged perpetrator was arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities, while the seized goods were taken as evidence of the offense.
These actions are part of the municipal plan to combat illegal street vending and crimes related to counterfeiting, aiming to protect the commercial fabric of Vélez-Málaga and ensure compliance with current regulations on consumer rights and trademarks.
Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, emphasized that "protecting small businesses and ensuring legality in our public spaces is a priority for this government team. Citizen collaboration and the firm work of the Local Police are key to achieving this."
Furthermore, the City Council reminds that unauthorized street vending not only constitutes an administrative or criminal offense, depending on the case, but also creates unfair competition for compliant businesses. Additionally, access to counterfeit products poses risks to consumer health and safety as they do not undergo quality control or comply with European labeling or material regulations.
For these reasons, the Security department and the Local Police of Vélez-Málaga will continue to strengthen controls during the summer, especially in areas with increased influx of residents and tourists, like the Torre del Mar coast, to prevent the proliferation of such illegal activities.
The City Council also appreciates the increasing citizen collaboration in reporting such situations and encourages residents to trust official channels to report any incidents or suspicions.
Arrest for Robbery with Intimidation in Torre del Mar
During the same night, in a separate operation, officers from the Local Police also arrested another individual in Torre del Mar for his alleged involvement in a robbery with intimidation. The incident occurred after receiving a citizen report of a possible street robbery. The police patrol immediately went to the scene, gathered information from the victim and witnesses, and initiated a search operation that led to the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrator a few meters from the crime scene.
The man was taken into custody and transferred to the police station, where proceedings were carried out for his presentation before the judicial authority.
Such actions reinforce the commitment of the City Council and the Local Police to public safety and prompt response to any crime that disrupts social harmony or causes public alarm, especially during periods like summer with increased population in places like Torre del Mar.
