The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has stated that this summer the payment of the additional 15.5 million euros approved at the end of June by the Government Council for the extraordinary financing of Andalusian public universities will be made effective, thus fulfilling the agreement reached in March with its rectors.
In this way, he has asserted that the remaining amount to complete the agreement will be determined once the universities have completed the evaluation of the performance of the horizontal career of their Technical, Management, Administration, and Services staff.
Moreno, who presided over the taking of office of José Rodríguez as the new Rector of the University of Huelva at the Palacio de San Telmo, has recalled that the financing model for this year will be based on the initially approved 1.726 million in the Junta’s budget, plus this extraordinary financing, which will amount to at least 21 million in total.
At this point, he has reiterated the commitment of the Andalusian Government to public universities, as well as the strong support that has been demonstrated by addressing their challenges and providing responses through dialogue and consensus with the rectors and the entire university community. «After years of demands, our universities have a new financing model that gives them full economic certainty and allows them to continue growing and becoming more efficient,» he added.
It is here where he has pointed out that thanks to this model the University of Huelva received a record funding in 2014, around 86 million euros, and has accumulated a 21% increase since 2018, 15 million more in just six years, a very notable growth, to which another 4.5 million have been added in improvements and incentives.
«The commitment of this Government to this new model is for the budget to be higher each year. Despite Andalusia being burdened by an unfair regional financing model for our population, resulting in 1.5 billion euros less per year.

The Andalusian President has emphasized that this academic year, after fifteen years without new degrees, 42 out of the total of 188 approved will begin to be taught, all thanks to the new Degree Map, which addresses a much-needed renewal to adapt education to the demands of our time.
In the case of the University of Huelva, he has assured that its offer will be increased, by 2028, with ten new degrees, six bachelor’s degrees, two master’s degrees, and two doctorates, specifying that the first of these, the Physics degree, will debut next academic year, being taught in collaboration with the University of Almería.

In this regard, he highlighted that the University of Huelva achieved another major milestone last academic year by starting the Medicine Degree, completing the Medicine map in all provinces, and added that in the new academic year, 1,500 new entry places will be offered throughout the Andalusian community, in public and private institutions, surpassing by over 500 places the Medicine spots offered in the 2018-2019 academic year, which he considered a quantitative and qualitative leap.
Moreno also made reference to the future University Law, which aims to propose a comprehensive modernization for that ultimate goal of educational and research excellence that we seek, and that will be the result of agreement and participation.
