El Templete del Paseo de la Alameda lleva el nombre de Salvador de la Peña

The Marbella City Council has recognized the involvement of journalist and broadcaster Salvador de la Peña Luque in the cultural life and traditions of Marbella, assigning his name to the Templete of Paseo de la Alameda. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, highlighted during the official ceremony held today that this tribute «is a recognition that the city does not forget those who enhance it, and Salvador has done so every day of his life.» «From today, this structure, which has been a stage for so many words, music, and life, will forever carry the name of someone who has dedicated his life to communicating, inspiring, and serving his municipality with great passion,» emphasized the mayor.

The mayor emphasized that the honoree, who was born on Calle Lobatas, «has been for more than four decades the voice that entered our homes from Radio Nacional de España, first as part of the union station and later on Radio 5 Todo Noticias, with an impeccable trajectory in which he has always put Marbella at the forefront, regardless of the scenario: fairs, Holy Week, festivals, congresses, or proclamations.» Thus, she recalled that «he was the pregonero of our most beloved festivals, presenter of countless cultural and solidarity events, elder brother, president of the Association of Brotherhoods, and ambassador of our traditions wherever he went, even in London, where for five years he represented the City Council on Andalusia Day.»

Likewise, she emphasized that De la Peña «has numerous merits that led him to be distinguished with the City Medal, an award he shares with dozens of thank-you plaques from many city collectives.» «He is a person who felt, feels, and loves our municipality,» she noted. «His commitment to Marbella, our customs, brotherhoods, and Andalusian culture, especially flamenco, has been absolute,» highlighted the mayor, who added that «as a journalist and broadcaster, as a neighbor, as a passionate about Marbella, Salvador has always left an indelible mark, and today that legacy becomes visible and permanent in this templete, which will proudly bear his name.»

For his part, De la Peña thanked this tribute, in an event attended by authorities, family, and friends, and pointed out that «in this place that bears my name, and which is remembered from the 60s when Francisco Cantos Gallardo was mayor, I have had the privilege of presenting the election of the Queens and Maids of Honor for several years, the proclamation of the Patron Saint of Marbella, San Bernabé, and concerts by the municipal band, among other performances.» «Today will be etched deep in my heart, along with the City Medal awarded to me in February 2017,» he assured.
