Acuerdo para construir nueva sede judicial en Baena.

The Justice, Local Administration, and Public Function Councilor José Antonio Nieto and the Mayor of Los hermanos, María Jesús Serrano, signed a Collaboration Protocol that will allow the construction of a New Judicial Headquarters in the city of Córdoba. The agreement stipulates that The Municipal Council will build a building that will relinquish autonomous administration in exchange for the current courts where the municipality wishes to locate the local police facilities.

Nieto highlighted the collaboration between administrations with different political affiliations, putting the general interest of the residents, not only from Baena, but also from Luque and Valenzuela, who are part of the same judicial district. «Dialogue is the shortest way to reach agreements. Projects that benefit everyone can be implemented, regardless of ideology,» he defended.

In this regard, he mentioned that on the previous visit, on March 26, 2024, the Mayor of Baena must expand the local police facilities. Nieto praised the visionary approach in finding a solution where «everyone wins,» proposing the construction of a new building to house the courts and the exchange for the current judicial headquarters.

Nieto explained that, after studying the proposal, the Ministry negotiated with the General Directorate of the Governing Board to obtain approval for this exchange, and «within a year,» both administrations have signed the protocol to commence the project.

The Baena Municipal Council will build the new judicial headquarters on two municipal plots on Central de Mesones Street, already adapted to the structure provided in the law on the efficiency of public justice. The regulation replaces single-person courts with collegiate courts, implying a more flexible reorganization of staff, as officials will no longer be assigned to a specific court.

For the council, this saves them from having to make adjustments to comply with the law in the current headquarters on Juan Occi Street, while the City Council also benefits as it needed new facilities for the local police and, thanks to this protocol, will have the additions in the location they desired, «right in front of the local council.»

The city council of Córdoba is already promoting the necessary procedures for the construction of a «New building, designed for the Administration of Justice» on the two plots on Mesones Street, totaling 736 square meters and classified as urban land.

The maximum height in the area is Two floors, sufficient to accommodate First Instance and Instruction Court, Provincial Prosecutor, Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the dean and the Civil Registry, in addition to a waiting room for victims and «Gesell» rooms for the practice of pre-confessed evidence. The project will also ensure full accessibility of the building.

The councilor pointed out that, with this protocol, the projects of the 2023-2030 Judicial Infrastructure Plan will be affected by Public Collaboration between the council and municipalities or deputies, one of the forestry formulas, along with public-private collaboration, the use of European funds, and self-financing to achieve the goal of acting in 100% of the 85 judicial districts in Andalucía.

In the province of Córdoba, the new headquarters in Lucena, inaugurated last September, has been renovated, Aguilar de la Frontera has been built, and work will begin in Montilla. The Ministry of Justice is also tackling the air conditioning issues at the Pozoblanco headquarters. «With the new headquarters, Córdoba will be the province with the best judicial units,» he said.

María Jesús Serrano emphasized that «today marks the beginning of a path that will lead us to obtain a headquarters for the local police adapted to modern times and with accessibility, while also serving public justice in the judicial part of Baena. Preserving essential public services in the historic center by offering them life, we fill the void in Mesones and create an administrative building with various public services; To achieve this, we will seek European funds in the mayor’s call, along with the Commonwealth of GuadaJoz.»
