Twenty mayors from the Ronda mountain range and its surroundings, affected by the total closure of the Ronda-San Pedro road (A-397), held a working meeting in Ronda today, at the request of the mayor, María de la Paz Fernández, and in which the territorial delegate of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, María Rosa Morales, was present to discuss the current situation of the affected road section and to address lines of work with the intention of minimizing the consequences of these circumstances.
Therefore, they have approved an institutional motion that includes the following: The current situation causes multiple negative consequences for the region of the Ronda mountain range: on one hand, the access problems to the jobs of thousands of residents of our territory who must travel daily to the Western Costa del Sol to perform their work, who also already suffer the consequences of taking a considerably longer alternative route, with the economic and time consequences that this situation entails. In addition, the interruption of tourist flow from the coast will have a negative economic impact on the usual activity of this job-generating sector in an area like Ronda and its mountain range, where tourism is one of its economic pillars.
Given this worrying situation, we consider it essential that all representatives of the affected localities join forces to request the following petitions:
- Request the Andalusian Government the highest priority in fixing the road that connects Ronda with San Pedro de Alcántara.
- Secondly, to be directly and constantly informed of all the progress being made in the repairs necessary to restore the normal state of the road.
- Additionally, we request the establishment of complementary public transport services, with a direct route to the coast, given the emergency situation.
- Furthermore, we demand that works be carried out to definitively repair and adapt the affected road, considering the actions outlined in the existing preliminary project, such as the implementation of slow traffic lanes, widening of shoulders, and road surface improvements.
- In addition, we demand from the Spanish government the waiver of tolls on the Manilva-Málaga highway for the duration of the current situation.
- We request that the companies in the PTA implement measures to facilitate telecommuting for affected workers.
- Lastly, we call for the implementation of direct aid lines for self-employed individuals and companies affected by this situation.
As Ronda’s mayor, María de la Paz Fernández, has pointed out, «we have calculated that 9,000 vehicles are affected daily by the current situation, in addition to passenger and tourist transports, and in this difficult situation we are experiencing, it is essential that all affected municipalities are united and look out for the interests of our residents.»
