The councilor for New Technologies has recalled that other areas such as Los Puertas, Lagos, Mezquitilla, and Los Íberos have already been covered, and that this progress in La Caleta is part of a clear municipal policy: “It is in response to a policy of democratizing fiber optics so that it reaches all the neighbors in this municipality.”
David Segura, deputy mayor of La Caleta de Vélez and councilor for New Technologies of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, announced this morning in a press conference a new fiber optic deployment in the municipality, specifically in the core of La Caleta de Vélez.
“We are here in this press conference to announce a new fiber optic deployment in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga. In this case, we are going to talk about the town of La Caleta, where I have the honor of being the deputy mayor,” Segura began.
He explained that the new infrastructure will reach areas that previously did not have this basic service: “In the area known as El Cortijillo and the entire area around the Genaro Rincón school, they will enjoy this fiber optic that they did not have before.”
He also wanted to thank the previous work done in the previous term: “I want to thank the work of my colleague Juan Carlos Muñoz in the last legislature, as more than 90% of the fiber optic deployment was completed, leaving a few technical issues in some corners of the municipality.”
Segura recalled that other areas such as Los Puertas, Lagos, Mezquitilla, and Los Íberos have already been covered, and that this progress in La Caleta is part of a clear municipal policy: “It is in response to a policy of democratizing fiber optics so that it reaches all the neighbors in this municipality.”
In this sense, he emphasized the importance of this measure for equal opportunities and the fight against depopulation: “We believe that this equal opportunity can also serve to have a fast and agile use of the Internet, to reach those public services, to also promote telecommuting, and above all, to avoid the depopulation that some rural areas are experiencing, not only here, but also in other parts of our country.”
Segura stated that this action is a clear commitment of the City Council and thanked the company responsible: “I want to thank from here, of course, also the company Jetnet for the work, for the effort they are making to reach all those rural areas.”
Finally, he sent a message to the residents of La Caleta de Vélez: “Starting in the coming weeks, we will be able to see a series of improvements and agility in terms of Internet connection.” And he concluded: “So that’s it. Thank you very much.”
