The president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has attended in Córdoba the Mediterranean Awards ceremony, where he stated that Andalusia is a Mediterranean region of reference with a more decisive role in the world as co-chair of the Committee of the Regions, which imposes a leadership attitude that this community assumes by increasingly asserting the voice of the South, which is also the voice of the Mediterranean, and, as he said, «drives us to seek partnership with other regions to defend common interests.»
Moreno pointed out that the Andalusian government created these awards in 2021 with the aim of bringing all its neighbors closer so that the Mediterranean becomes more and more a sea of peace, a sea of understanding, and a useful space for real collaboration.
Thus, he affirmed that this event focuses on individuals and organizations that contribute, in a prominent and exemplary way, to promote that desire, to foster among all of us the Mediterranean identity and its values of harmony, to promote its sustainable development and to make that dialogue of all with all, based on what unites us, which is much stronger and more powerful than what separates us, a reality.
The Andalusian president congratulated all the awardees, including Associazione Culturale Raizes from Italy, Khaos Research Group from the University of Malaga, the SLEC Project that unites France and Morocco in ecological response to energy and environmental challenges, Nermín El Bahtiti, Burj Al-Luqluq Social Center Society, and the Spanish social start-up Gravity Wave.
«These Awards are a recognition and an invitation to think, imagine, and build the future we want.»
Moreno stated that the world is going through turbulent times just like the Mediterranean, from the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians to the situation in Syria and Libya, climate change, and migration, and urged to live through these times without fear and with hope. «We have to overcome obstacles without giving up, as some of the awardees had to do to be here tonight, and do it because peace is always right, because the values of civilization and the defense of human rights and freedoms are always right, and because we must be on the side of reason and not of violence, anger, and fear. Always through harmony. That harmony is the hallmark that Andalusia puts in everything it does.»
