The Vélez-Málaga Municipal Council held its regular session for January today. The meeting, held in the Plenary Hall of the City Hall, was chaired by the Mayor of the Municipality, Jesús Lupiáñez.
This ordinary session for the first month of the year began with the approval of an institutional motion to continue honoring the Church of Almayate with the name «Miguel Vida Palomo», a distinguished resident who dedicated his life to community work. Various activities, events, and festivities took place in the town center. The entire council reviewed Miguel’s life, visibly pleased with the recognition.
The Municipal Corporation supported naming this location after a resident who has been actively involved in all initiatives, events, and commemorations in Almayate since his arrival. Miguel Vida was instrumental in organizing various religious processions, choir performances, and cultural events in the area. The council unanimously approved the motion, acknowledging Miguel’s lifelong dedication and ongoing contributions to the community.
The plenary session also approved a detailed study on the establishment of a flight pilot residence focused on aerodynamics, a pilot school located in the Tecnoalimenario Park that will have an international impact. The proposal emphasizes the importance of this academy for Vélez-Málaga, highlighting the opportunities it will provide for aspiring pilots from around the world.
In addition, the council approved a discussion on the legal capacity of municipalities to intervene and authorize the installation, operation, or activities related to telecommunications infrastructure. The Urban Planning Councilor, Celestino Rivas, highlighted the need for regulated collaboration in the deployment of public communication networks.
Furthermore, the council supported a proposal for a door-to-door waste collection plan in certain neighborhoods of the city. This initiative aims to improve waste management in areas where traditional collection methods are challenging. The plan includes the implementation of a more accessible waste disposal system in designated neighborhoods, enhancing environmental sustainability.
The Mayor of the Historic Center elaborated on the strategic plan implemented by the local administration to revitalize the city’s historic and cultural heritage. The plan has led to increased tourism and improved infrastructure, making the city more attractive to visitors from diverse backgrounds.
In conclusion, the council unanimously approved proposals from the VOX Municipal Group to urge the Andalusian Council to address road infrastructure improvements and coastal conservation efforts. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of life and sustainability in the region.
