The Vélez-Málaga City Council continues its strong and determined commitment to providing the municipality with the necessary infrastructures and facilities for its development and the definition of an efficient and functional communication axis that facilitates the transit of vehicles between the different locations of the municipal area in a fast and safe manner. This morning, in an ordinary session, the local Government Board of the Vélez-Málaga City Council announced the upcoming development of a new area, next to the Camino de Torrox, which will allow for the future construction of a maximum of 509 residential housing units.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has expressed his satisfaction with "the impetus of a new project that will represent a turning point for the municipality, as we are talking about a decisive step to accommodate new housing units, which represents one of our most important commitments for the future of Vélez-Málaga." In this case, the approval made by the local Government Board will entail the development of a plot of land of over 250,000 square meters, which will be properly conditioned with the necessary infrastructures and facilities to, in the future, build up to a maximum of 509 housing units on the specified land parcel.
This significant news adds to the final step towards the execution of the second phase of the urbanization works of the Camino de Torrox, which will involve the widening of the already urbanized route from the El Limonar area towards the south, including two additional lanes and a bike lane. The work will cover an extension of 800 meters, complementing the previously executed section.
This advancement is of great importance for the residents of Vélez-Málaga, as the connection between the main urban center and the coast is one of the main objectives, given the significant traffic flow along this route. The "important progress" will mark the beginning of this crucial second phase of the urbanization of a road essential for connecting our inland area with the coastal zone.
"After recently inaugurating the first phase of the urbanization of this important route, which connects Vélez-Málaga with its coastline, and which is a frequent route for many residents and visitors, it is essential to have taken this step to expedite the completion of a project that had been demanded for some time and that we will finally be able to achieve for the benefit of all our citizens," emphasized the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, highlighting "the great work done by the Urban Planning Department to overcome the various necessary procedures that will allow this second phase to become a reality very soon."
The councilor in charge, Celestino Rivas, clarified that the mentioned distribution will play a crucial role in the necessary alleviation and better organization of road traffic between Vélez-Málaga and Caleta de Vélez. The start of the works, involving the approval of the final addendum to the urbanization project, has been promoted by the Compensation Board of sector SUP-VM-13, and it involves an extension to two lanes and the location of the bike lane on the right side towards Caleta de Vélez.
In this context, the local Government Board has supported the final approval of the so-called urbanization project of sector SUP VM-13 "Camino de Torrox I of the General Urban Development Plan of Vélez-Málaga. Addendum to the Urbanization Works Project of Camino de Torrox (Phase II) promoted by the Compensation Board of the sector," which has been ratified by the competent authority, a move that has been highly praised by the Urban Planning councilor, who has commended the "work done by municipal technicians in recent months to progress in the necessary procedures with the relevant instances of the Andalusian Government."
Imminent Award
In this second phase, there are updates regarding the awarding of the works. After the documentation and corresponding procedures period, the project is currently under review for the proposals, making the awarding of the redevelopment works in its second phase imminent.
The execution of the project to widen the already urbanized route from the El Limonar area towards the south, covering an extension of 800 meters, will complete the first phase of execution, which was completed and presented last December, culminating in a significant and impactful work for the traffic flow of the municipality. The decisive second phase will allow for the "designing and conditioning of a vital artery for the communicative interaction of the Vélez-Málaga center with the coastal area," positioning it as "a key element in relieving the accesses to Vélez-Málaga and facing the traffic congestion during peak hours of high volume of vehicles," argued Jesús Lupiáñez.
Finally, the mayor of Vélez-Málaga has once again demanded from the Spanish government their commitment to the execution of the semilink of the A-7 highway, corresponding to the access from Caleta de Vélez towards the town of Nerja, "which has remained unrealized for over 15 years, and which year after year continues to be absent from the State’s general budgets."
