The Granada Metro, affiliated with the Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, will expand its seating capacity by 50% this year during the Corpus Fair compared to the previous year, thanks to the inclusion of the newly acquired trains that will allow for operation with 21 units during peak hours. The metro will provide uninterrupted service for five days and extend its operating hours until 2 AM from Sunday to Tuesday of the Corpus Fair, also improving the frequency compared to the special services in 2024.

The Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, stated that the investment effort made with the acquisition of the eight new trains, «is not only helping to improve the frequency of service and comfort inside the trains during weekdays, but also allowing us to enhance special services like those during the Corpus Fair, which are the most popular among users throughout the year.»

The special services during the Corpus Fair include Saturday, June 14th with continuous service (24 hours), as well as Wednesday 18th, Thursday 19th, Friday 20th, and Saturday 21st of June when the service will run uninterrupted for 24 hours until the final Sunday of the Corpus Fair at 11:00 PM.

During these five days of uninterrupted service on the Granada Metro, it is planned to operate with 18 units. Of these, three will be double composition, so there will be 21 trains in circulation, resulting in a 50% increase in seating capacity compared to the 2024 Corpus Fair (the increase will be 62% during the five days of uninterrupted service). During peak hours, the frequency will be six and a half minutes, compared to eight and a half minutes in 2024 before the new train fleet was introduced.

During the weekend before the Corpus Fair, the Granada Metro will operate continuously from Saturday, June 14th until the last train departs from the terminals at 2 AM on Sunday to Monday. This totals 44 hours of uninterrupted service with extended hours on Sunday, as the service usually ends at 11:00 PM. Compared to the previous year, overall frequencies will improve, especially between 5:30 PM and 11:00 PM, with trains every six and a half minutes on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, June 16th, and Tuesday, June 17th, the Granada Metro, managed by the Public Works Agency, will improve train intervals in the early morning, at noon, and in the afternoon until 8:30 PM, with an extension of operating hours by three hours each day (until 2:00 AM), as the metro normally concludes service at 11:00 PM on weekdays.

The Granada Metro will also maintain continuous service from Wednesday, June 18th to Sunday, June 22nd until 11:00 PM, totaling 115 and a half hours of uninterrupted operation, including the Corpus Fair holiday on Thursday, June 19th. The train intervals at stops and stations will be reinforced, with trains every six and a half minutes in the morning (7:30 AM to 10:30 AM) and from 1:30 PM onwards, adjusting the intervals if there is less user traffic. The experience from last year’s Corpus Fair has helped the Granada Metro to determine the time frames where train reinforcement is most needed, increasing frequency.

The Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing aims to promote the use of public transportation and ensure, as in previous years, that the Granada Metro plays a key role in the Corpus Fair festivities by providing convenient and fast access to the fairgrounds through the Jaén and Estación de Autobuses stops, where surveillance, information, and security measures for users will be enhanced.

The Granada Metro service has been planned in the Local Civil Protection Board, which has approved the Fair Plan for the 2025 Corpus Fair. This body, which coordinates all institutions related to safety during the festivities, plans to install barriers at the Jaén and Estación de Autobuses stops to improve pedestrian access to the fairgrounds.
