The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, announced this morning the two protagonists who will lead a new edition of the local festivities par excellence. They will have the honor and responsibility of creating the artwork that will symbolically represent this significant and exciting event and of dedicating a few words to one of our most recognized and popular traditions.
«I am thrilled just to say it, I have experienced this celebration since I was a child and never imagined it would be my turn. I will do it with all my heart for the residents of Vélez-Málaga and the entire Axarquía,» expressed Yolanda Guirado Lanzas, the artist who will bring strokes and colors to our beloved festivities.
«I am overwhelmed by the great honor of representing Vélez-Málaga and the Axarquía. I will put my heart into conveying all the beauty that this land holds, which is vast,» stated the next speaker, José Antonio Lagos Segarra.
In the calendar of events orchestrated by the Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Department of Popular Traditions, one essential pillar stands out among the most significant celebrations of the municipality. On the horizon is one of our most important and grand events, the Real Feria de San Miguel, which in its 2025 edition will once again be an ideal environment for residents and visitors to experience new moments of joy and excitement.
Today, the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has unveiled the authors of the Official Poster and Proclamation of the Real Feria de San Miguel 2025, responsibilities that fall on the shoulders of Yolanda Guirado Lanzas and José Antonio Lagos Segarra. Both protagonists were received at City Hall by the Vélez mayor, who introduced them as the representatives of our population who will lead the local festivities of the Real Feria, news that was announced this morning, in a joint appearance with members of the local government.
Therefore, we now know the first details of one of the most outstanding celebrations in the capital of the Axarquía, for which there are just over three months left, and we already know the first appointments, two of the most relevant and unique figures of the event, Yolanda Guirado and José Antonio Lagos.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, who met with the two protagonists in the City Hall, highlighted the importance of the two tasks «that constitute a great honor and responsibility for any citizen of our municipality,» as «the Real Feria de San Miguel is one of those events marked in golden letters for the entire municipal area, a framework for meeting and interaction for all ages, and one that each and every one of us is eagerly awaiting throughout the year.» Once again, Lupiáñez praised the artist and speaker, «two neighbors with a magnificent trajectory, commitment, and good work for our municipality for many years.»
«I am thrilled just to say it, I have experienced this celebration since I was a child and never imagined it would be my turn,» visibly excited Yolanda Guirado Lanzas expressed, reflecting that «it is an honor that they have thought of me to create the Official Poster of the Feria de San Miguel 2025. When the mayor called me, I thought it was for work-related reasons, to buy a tie or something like that, but when he told me I was going to paint the fair’s poster, I couldn’t believe it. I will do it with all my heart for the residents of Vélez-Málaga and the entire Axarquía,» explained the artist who will bring strokes and colors to the work of our beloved festivities.
This Vélez native showed her enthusiasm for painting at an early age, starting to make her first sketches at just 8 years old, developing her artistic training from a young age under the guidance of the renowned local painter Antonio Valdés. Her dedication to the municipality has been imbued throughout her life, participating in the family business, in the textile sector, from her tender age of 23. A member of the Scout group, her journey in the painting segment led her to create the poster for the Cabrillas pilgrimage, where she served as secretary of the brotherhood. With a fresh and skillful brush, Yolanda has reached the great responsibility of her career: bringing strokes and colors to the Real Feria de San Miguel 2025.
José Antonio Lagos, the next speaker of San Miguel 2025, claims to have no «words» to express this significant assignment. «I am overwhelmed by the great honor of representing Vélez-Málaga and the Axarquía, because that is my goal, to reflect the region in its capital. I will put my heart into conveying all the beauty that this land holds, which is vast,» Lagos asserted.
It can be noticed that José Antonio Lagos practically began to conceive music shortly after taking his first steps. This Benamocarra native came into contact with his vocation and future profession at the age of 7, under the guidance of his father, Antonio Lagos, who nurtured his son’s musical talent during his participation in the music band of this Axarquía municipality. Lagos began his journey in the Municipal Band of Vélez-Málaga at just 9 years old and studied saxophone at the Superior Conservatory of Málaga. After his teaching period in solfege and instrument in various Axarquía localities, he served as a director in different musical groups, with a special mention to the famous Zamarrilla brotherhood of Malaga. With a solid education in musical direction, the flamboyant speaker of the Real Feria de San Miguel is the director of the Municipal Music Band and a true institution in the Axarquía capital, and in this 2025, he has the opportunity to choose the words with which to offer his particular tribute, in front of the people of Vélez, to one of our most iconic festivities.
