The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has provided a very positive assessment of the recently concluded Holy Week, highlighting the significant influx of people during all the days and the excellent work of the security forces and bodies, as well as the outstanding maintenance and cleaning efforts carried out by the operational services and the exemplary behavior of the attendees at the processional floats and other initiatives orchestrated by the Vélez-Málaga City Council.

The coordination and preparation by the Emergency Coordination Center (CECOP) were also praised for ensuring safe and incident-free festivities. The geolocation of the floats, widespread deployment of emergency personnel and defibrillators, and training provided to members of the brotherhoods were key factors in the successful execution of the Vélez-Málaga Holy Week.

The agreement to broadcast the Holy Week events via YouTube, signed by the City Council with Avatel VE, allowed our tradition to be streamed to countries around the world, including France, Germany, Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam, among others. This initiative was a resounding success, with over 65,000 views and more than 16,000 hours of viewing worldwide.

On social media, there were over 1.7 million views on Facebook and Instagram, with daily video summaries exceeding 150,000 views. The outstanding efforts and dedication of local businesses and hospitality establishments were also highlighted by the mayor.

The Holy Week in Vélez-Málaga concluded on Easter Sunday, following a series of processions and events that showcased one of the most emblematic and recognized traditions in the region. The massive attendance of the public, combined with the coordinated efforts of the municipal services and security agents, contributed to a successful Holy Week in terms of organization, security, cleanliness, and participation.

Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez expressed his great satisfaction with the outcome of the Holy Week celebrations, emphasizing the promotional and touristic significance of the event for the city. He praised the work of the municipal services, local police, firefighters, Civil Protection, Red Cross, and all the groups involved, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for the thousands of people on the streets during the Holy Week.

Acknowledgments were also given to the dedication of the brotherhoods, the meticulous work of the Brotherhoods of Holy Week, and the collaboration of the cleaning services for maintaining the city’s streets. The mayor also thanked the population for their exemplary behavior and the local businesses and hospitality sector for their exceptional service during the festivities.

The positive atmosphere in the city extended to the coastal area, with residents and visitors enjoying the activities in Torre del Mar. Notable events included the throne exhibitions in Paseo Larios, the Via Crucis, and the diverse commercial and hospitality offerings from bars, restaurants, beach bars, and other establishments.

In terms of global reach, the City Council’s initiative to broadcast the Holy Week events worldwide through YouTube was a significant success, reaching viewers in various countries such as France, Germany, the United States, Mexico, and many more. The presence on social media platforms garnered significant attention, with millions of views and emotional connections made with audiences from around the world.

The comprehensive coverage of the Holy Week events on the City Council’s website attracted over 21,000 visits during the festivities, with visitors from countries like the UK, Sweden, France, Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland.

The success of the Emergency Coordination Center (CECOP) was highlighted for its crucial role in ensuring the high standards of security during the Holy Week festivities. The geolocation of the floats, distribution of medical equipment and defibrillators, training for brotherhood members, and the use of identification bracelets for minors were essential tools in maintaining a safe and incident-free Holy Week.

In conclusion, Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez expressed a very positive evaluation of the Holy Week, reaffirming the commitment of the local government to uphold traditions and promote the arrival of new visitors to enjoy the cultural, heritage, and leisure offerings in the municipality.
