Celebra Vélez-Málaga el II Pride con estreno de cortometraje ‘Noa’

The councillor for Social Rights and Equality of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Juan García, presented today, alongside Bosco Vida, the person in charge of the audiovisual project, the II Pride Veleño, which will take place on June 28th with the premiere of the short film ‘Noa’ at the Cinesur El Ingenio.

The short film, created entirely by students from the IES Almenara, addresses the issue of transphobia and hatred towards transgender people, and is the result of the work carried out during awareness workshops that the delegation has been conducting since 2023 in the educational centers of the municipality.

«This type of action is essential to continue promoting social pedagogy around diversity and to stop the hate speech that certain sectors are trying to spread. A diverse society is a rich society, and it is our duty to educate in empathy and respect,» stated Councillor Juan García.

The project follows the success of the short film ‘My friend Mara’, created in 2024 by students from the IES Joaquín Lobato, which was presented during the first edition of the Vélez-Málaga Pride. This year, the initiative has expanded and has involved three high schools: Juan de la Cierva, Miraya del Mar, and Almenara, with the latter being the location for the filming and creation of ‘Noa.’

Bosco Vida highlighted the involvement of the students and teachers: «We have taught them acting techniques, scriptwriting, audiovisual production, and they have done it all themselves. What you are about to see is a work created with conviction, sensitivity, and commitment by our young people,» he explained.

In addition to the premiere of the short film, the event on June 28th will be a symbolic act for the city, solidifying the Vélez-Málaga Pride as a regional reference in the defense of the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community through education and culture.

The City Council expresses special thanks to the educational community for their collaboration, as well as to all participants for the work done, which represents a firm step towards a more egalitarian, tolerant, and committed Vélez-Málaga.
