March 6, 2025

- The municipality will host the ninth edition of this initiative on March 22, an event that attracts more riders every year and has become a benchmark
- The Mijas route combines tradition and nature in a unique route that crosses countryside, city, and beach, offering participants the experience of riding by the sea
Mijas, March 6, 2025.- The Livestock Councillor of the Municipality of Mijas, Eloy Belmonte, presented this morning the IX edition of the equestrian route along the beach, a well-established event that brings together hundreds of riders and equestrian enthusiasts every year to ride horseback through one of the most unique environments in the municipality.
The event, organized by the council in collaboration with the Mijas Horsemen’s Club, will take place on March 22 and will allow participants to enjoy an itinerary that combines countryside, city, and beach, with a special section along the seashore before concluding with a gathering at Los Olivos Park in La Cala.
During the presentation, Belmonte emphasized the importance of this activity, which has become one of the most prominent in the equestrian field in the province. «It is the most important route in Mijas and the one that has made us known outside,» he highlighted. «Each year, participation grows, and it has become a unique event in the province, attracting riders from all over Andalusia and even beyond.»
The route will start at 9:30 a.m. from El Esparragal Park, at the Mijas Horsemen’s Club booth. From there, riders will pass through various points in the municipality, regrouping at the plains in front of El Chaparral School around 11:00 a.m., before reaching La Cala beach at around 12:30 p.m., where horses will stroll along the shore for about an hour. The day will end at Los Olivos Park around 3:00 p.m., where there will be a gathering with food, singing, and flamenco dancing.
«It is a unique experience because in the same journey, you cross countryside, city, and beach, and then we end with a gathering where gastronomy and flamenco also play a fundamental role,» Belmonte pointed out. «The most anticipated section is the beach ride because it is something exceptional that cannot be done at any time of the year, but the whole route is special and has a great variety of landscapes.»
To ensure the proper development of the event, the organization has planned a security device with the support of Civil Protection, the presence of a veterinarian and a farrier provided by the Horsemen’s Club, as well as street closures managed by the Local Police. In this regard, Belmonte emphasized the importance of registering in advance. «It is essential for people to register. It’s not just about the number of horses participating, but about everything being well organized and the experience being as safe and satisfying as possible,» he explained.
On the other hand, the president of the Mijas Horsemen’s Club, Juan López-Ayala, emphasized the great reception of this route, which has become the most popular of all organized by the entity. «It is the one with the most acceptance. We organize activities every month, but this is the most anticipated. More and more people know about us, this year even friends from Madrid have decided to bring their horses here to participate,» he noted.
Last year, the route brought together 150 official registered participants, although the final attendance was almost double. «It is important to register to better organize everything, from food to security,» López-Ayala insisted, recalling that the Club maintains a busy schedule throughout the year with events such as the Full Moon Route in summer or the Sierra Route in spring, as well as regular meetings among enthusiasts. «We always encourage more riders to join. Here, good people and good enthusiasts are always welcome.»
Finally, Belmonte wanted to highlight the strong bond of Mijas with the equestrian world. «The horse is an emblem of our municipality. With more than 2,300 registered horses, we are at the forefront in Andalusia in this field, and that is reflected in the great reception that events like this have.»
The deadline to register will be open until March 19 through the phone numbers 670066075 and 635976703, as indicated on the event poster and announced on the official website of the Town Hall and on social media.
