Marbella City Hall commemorated Europe Day with an institutional event held at the Royal Mercy Hospital, where various entrepreneurs were recognized for their contribution to the local social and economic fabric. The advisor responsible for Resident Foreigners, Remedios Bocanegra, highlighted during her speech the «essential role played by European associations in the defense of the spirit of coexistence and mutual understanding» and emphasized that «Marbella, as a cosmopolitan city, is a faithful reflection of the cultural richness and diversity of our continent.»
During the event, which was attended by Deputy Mayor María Francisca Caracuel and the Dean of the Consular Corps of Malaga, Alberto Benito, among other authorities, it was remembered that the Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950 was the origin of the European Union. «It has been 75 years and has proven its effectiveness in promoting economic growth and job creation,» as well as «strengthening our democratic values, protecting human rights, and working together to address global challenges.»
For his part, Benito stated that «today we not only celebrate a date, we celebrate an idea, that of a united Europe in peace, where differences are respected, rights are protected, and a future is built together,» while emphasizing that «Marbella is a clear reflection of this with over 170 nationalities, a multicultural city.» He also emphasized that «we must continue working and fighting together and united for the maintenance of peace.»
