El Ayuntamiento de Estepona está implementando varias medidas para mejorar la fluidez del tráfico en la ciudad, especialmente en los puntos de entrada y salida a la autovía donde se producen mayores complicaciones en ciertas horas del día. Una de estas medidas será activada en los próximos días e implicará un cambio en la dirección del tráfico en los carriles de la avenida Juan Carlos I entre la rotonda de la fuente y el Parque de Bomberos. Con este cambio, habrá dos carriles de bajada (desde la autovía hacia el casco urbano) y uno de subida.
«Este cambio tiene como objetivo mejorar la fluidez del tráfico en este punto, ya que en horas pico hay una gran cantidad de tráfico en el único carril de entrada que existe actualmente», explica la teniente de alcalde de Fomento e Infraestructuras, Ana Velasco.
Los trabajadores municipales están repintando la señalización horizontal en estos días y una vez finalizados estos trabajos, se iniciará el cambio de dirección en los diferentes carriles.
Nueva rotonda
Al mismo tiempo, el Ayuntamiento continúa trabajando en otras medidas para mejorar la circulación en la zona, como la reapertura, la semana pasada, de la avenida Puerta del Mar después de las obras complejas de saneamiento y abastecimiento de agua realizadas en la zona. Además, se encuentra en proceso de licitación la construcción de una nueva rotonda en la avenida José Martín Méndez con el objetivo de reorganizar la circulación en esta zona y en la rotonda cercana de acceso a la avenida Juan Carlos I.
Esta zona del municipio tiene una gran cantidad de tráfico, especialmente en horas pico, y también conecta con el acceso al polígono. Específicamente, la nueva rotonda estará ubicada en la intersección de José Martín Méndez con la calle Alemania.
Por otro lado, el Ayuntamiento vuelve a solicitar al Gobierno central la apertura de un nuevo acceso a la ciudad desde la autovía A-7. En noviembre pasado, el alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, se reunió en Madrid con responsables del Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible para abordar esta solicitud. Se planteó la posibilidad de abrir un nuevo acceso y salida por la zona de La Lobilla o por la Cuesta de Ronda. El Ayuntamiento está dispuesto a asumir el coste y la ejecución de esta infraestructura si recibe la autorización correspondiente del Gobierno central.
The Estepona City Council is taking various measures to improve traffic flow in the city, especially at the entry and exit points to the highway where the most complications occur during certain hours of the day. Municipal workers are currently repainting the road markings, and once these works are completed, the indicated lane changes will begin.
New roundabout
Simultaneously, the City Council continues to work on other measures aimed at improving traffic flow in the area, such as the reopening last week of Avenida Puerta del Mar after the complex water sanitation and supply works carried out in the area. At the same time, the construction of a new roundabout on Avenida José Martín Méndez is in the tender phase with the aim of reorganizing traffic flow in this area and at the nearby roundabout that provides access to Avenida Juan Carlos I.
This is an area of the municipality with a high concentration of traffic, especially during peak hours, which also connects to the industrial estate. Specifically, the new roundabout will be located at the intersection of José Martín Méndez and Calle Alemania.
Furthermore, the City Council once again urges the central government to open a new access point to the city from the A-7 highway. Last November, the Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, met with officials from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility in Madrid to discuss this request. Specifically, the possibility of opening a new entrance and exit through the La Lobilla area or through Cuesta de Ronda was proposed. The City Council has expressed its willingness to assume the cost and execution of this infrastructure if it receives the necessary authorization from the central government.
