Mijas, March 26, 2025.- The Economic Development Area of the Mijas City Council has promoted the first edition of the Training and Job Opportunities Fair (FDEFOL). This event brought together more than thirty entities, as well as job seekers, who are the target audience.

The event was inaugurated by the Mayor, Ana Mata, the Territorial Delegate for Employment of the Andalusian Government, Carmen Sánchez, and the Councilor for Economic Development, Juan Carlos Maldonado. The objective of this fair is to offer a meeting point between companies and individuals actively seeking employment, promoting job opportunities and professional development in our municipality.

For this first edition, 31 entities participated, including administrations such as the Chamber of Commerce of Malaga and the Defense Subdelegation. In addition, hotels, social collectives, service companies, and training academies were also present. The event was attended by 200 people.

The program includes a series of lectures and panel discussions addressing topics such as «Your employability, your future: attitudes vs. aptitudes», «New paradigm in Vocational Training: Dual training»; «Artificial intelligence and new job opportunities» and «Career guidance with UAS/Drones».

«One of the priorities of the Mijas City Council is the development of employment promotion policies, so this initiative is specifically aimed at those who want to enter the job market. For this purpose, we have the collaboration of thirty entities that are a sample of the rich business fabric of our municipality. For this reason, it is important to highlight the collaboration with the private sector to increase levels of employability and promote training. There must be a correlation between employment and training, and this first job fair, which will not be the last, highlights the companies we have and their needs, connecting them with people looking for work,» explained the Mayor, Ana Mata.

In the same vein, Juan Carlos Maldonado, Councilor for Employment Promotion, emphasized that this first training and job opportunities fair aims to «connect the job market, companies, and training centers and has received significant support from employers as it represents a very significant tool for recruiting workers».

The Delegate for Employment, Business, and Self-Employment of the Andalusian Government in Malaga and Provincial Director of the Andalusian Employment Service, Carmen Sánchez Sierra, congratulated the City Council on the celebration of this first edition, highlighting that «Mijas is the fourth municipality in Malaga with the highest level of employment, currently having 24,929 Social Security affiliates in February; however, it also has more than 6,000 unemployed, and although unemployment has decreased by 8% compared to the previous year, we must do everything possible to continue reducing this figure».

Furthermore, Sánchez Sierra, on behalf of the Andalusian Government, stated that «we support and see the need for the celebration of this type of event, where the relationship between employee and employer is directly favored, and where organizations can find talent in a more natural and fluid way,» she said during the inauguration.

It is worth noting that, according to the Statistics and Cartography Institute of Andalusia, self-employed individuals represent 16.6% of total affiliations in Andalusia. By provinces, this percentage is highest in Malaga (19.3%). Among municipalities with more than 10,000 affiliations, 19 have a percentage of self-employed workers above 20%. Mijas ranks second in the highest percentage of self-employed individuals, at 31.2%, representing an increase of 1.4%. The year 2024 ended with a total of 8,476 self-employed individuals in the municipality, making these job fairs very beneficial for promoting entrepreneurship and job opportunities.
