El Ayuntamiento de Vélez-Málaga acondicionará el edificio municipal de El Romeral para el Área de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales

The local government has launched a significant initiative to revitalize a space that has been abandoned and unused for years. The Area of Occupational Risk Prevention will be located in these facilities, providing preventive services to internal staff of the City Council, municipal dependencies, as well as affiliated and external companies.

According to the responsible municipal technician, this service covers over 5,000 individuals daily, making it the largest service in terms of accidents and related incidents. It will also offer guidance to citizens and businesses to streamline their processes. Additionally, reviving this building will enhance the urban environment in the area.

The allocated budget for the adaptation works is €241,579, with a 7.5-month execution period. Funding has been secured through the Employment Promotion Program for Income Guarantee in Municipal Buildings (PFEA) in 2024.

The City Council of Vélez-Málaga, through the Department of Municipal Buildings, has taken a critical step towards addressing a major project for the municipality. The Mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, announced that the El Romeral building, which had been unused for years, will now house the Area of Occupational Risk Prevention.

The project involves essential works to equip the building and enhance its functionality, contributing to the development of Vélez-Málaga. The El Romeral municipal building, located on plot ES SUO VM-10, presents significant opportunities for local development, leading to its inclusion in the PFEA for Municipal Buildings in 2024.

Local Impact

The municipal technician, Víctor González, emphasized the importance of the project, highlighting the need for facilities to accommodate the large number of individuals served. This new building will have a significant impact, providing operational coverage to internal municipal staff and offering guidance to citizens, businesses, and organizations.

The future facilities will manage all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and workwear in compliance with PRL regulations, including for the Local Police and Civil Protection. The building will also oversee the use of defibrillators, potable water sources, accident procedures, emergency plans, and drills, significantly impacting local PRL compliance.

«It is a project of general interest for residents and businesses, as equipping this municipal building was a necessity,» stated Jesús María Claros, the department’s councilor. The interventions in the building will enable the establishment of a new service point for citizens and businesses, contributing to the beautification of the urban environment in the area.

Tasks and Distribution

The project, named «Actions in a Municipal Building in El Romeral Hill,» located on plot ES SUO VM-10, has received a budget allocation of €241,579 and will be executed over seven and a half months. The investment breakdown includes €159,032 for subsidized labor, €80,526 for materials and machinery expenses, and €2,019 as a municipal contribution towards labor costs.

Claros outlined the tasks required for the building’s adaptation to its new use as the headquarters of the Area of Occupational Risk Prevention. The distribution will involve three distinct zones: administration room, training room, and warehouse. The execution team will consist of four skilled workers and ten laborers.

The initial tasks include demolition of damaged partitions and finishes due to vandalism, followed by interior carpentry work to reconfigure the spaces. Electrical installations will be updated to meet new requirements. Claros emphasized the meticulous planning to ensure the building is in optimal condition for use.

These works at the El Romeral building are part of three other projects included in the PFEA for Municipal Buildings in Vélez-Málaga, demonstrating the commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure for the benefit of its residents and visitors.
