El Ayuntamiento de Vélez-Málaga convoca nueve plazas de Policía Local

The Vélez-Málaga City Council has today published in the Official Gazette of the Province the call to fill nine new positions in the Local Police department. This call is part of the municipal government’s strong commitment to strengthen public safety and expand human resources in service to the community. This addition builds upon the efforts made during this term, where thirteen new agent positions have been filled, eleven of which will begin their practical training on July 7 after completing their training at the IESPA. The City Council continues to advance a responsible and planned public safety policy, aimed at providing an effective response to the real needs of the municipality.

The Vélez-Málaga City Council is making steady progress in its commitment to improve security in all areas of the municipality and strengthen public services with more human and material resources. This Friday, the official call to fill nine new Local Police positions was published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP), taking another step in the municipal strategy to strengthen the workforce and improve citizen services.

Specifically, the call includes seven positions through open competition, one through mobility, and one reserved for professional military personnel, in accordance with the Public Employment Offer of 2024 and its subsequent extension, as reflected in the bulletins of January 29 and May 20. This call aims to continue providing the city with a better-sized, modern, and updated agent workforce in line with the new security, mobility, and public order demands in a diverse and extensive municipality like Vélez-Málaga.

Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez has positively valued this new progress, stating, «We take security very seriously. This call for positions is a specific and necessary measure, the result of a rigorous planning process that is already yielding results. In two years of term, we have unlocked processes, incorporated agents, and will continue to increase the workforce to provide more police presence, closer proximity, and greater effectiveness.»

The mayor also highlighted that this reinforcement is accompanied by other measures such as the installation of surveillance cameras in various areas of the municipality, the digitization of services, and the improvement of security-related infrastructure, emphasizing that an effective police force also requires updated resources, adequate means, and career stability.

This new call adds to the recent incorporation of 13 approved agents from the previous selection process, of which 11 will start their practical training in the municipality on July 7 after completing their training at the Institute of Emergencies and Public Safety of Andalusia (IESPA).

«With this call and the immediate incorporation of new personnel, we are creating a real change in the police structure of the municipality, which will result in increased security for our families, our streets, and our rural areas,» stated the mayor of Vélez-Málaga.

The published call has the necessary financial backing, accredited by the City’s Accounting Office, with the corresponding credit availability, ensuring the viability of the process without compromising the budget stability of the City Council.

«With this new call, the Vélez-Málaga City Council reaffirms its commitment to strengthening public safety, improving public service, and enhancing the Local Police workforce. This measure is part of the current Government team’s strategic planning to continue building a safer, more orderly, and prepared municipality for the challenges of the present and the future. Security is an essential pillar in the coexistence and well-being of our neighbors, and this call represents a new step in that direction,» concluded Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez.
