The City Council, through the Department of Social Rights, has activated an informative device to prevent the effects of heat among the most vulnerable groups. This was announced by the councilor in charge, Isabel Cintado, who has pointed out that «this initiative is mainly aimed at users of the Faro Program, the Home Help Service, and the Active Participation Centers for older people in the municipality.» Additionally, she has explained that the recommendations for the general public in the face of high temperatures are also available on the municipal website www.marbella.es
The councilor has specified that the Faro program, carried out by the City Council in collaboration with the Marbella Voluntary Association, «seeks to combat one of the most serious problems faced by our elderly, such as loneliness and isolation, and to help them continue living at home with a good quality of life for as long as possible.» In this regard, she has indicated that «in this specific case, special information and monitoring of the people being cared for is provided, with a special emphasis on informing them about the effects of heat and how to combat them.» Likewise, she has emphasized that caregivers from the Home Help Service are focusing on disseminating these tips to their users, while the Active Participation Centers have municipal staff who emphasize the advice on dealing with high temperatures and the most appropriate measures to take. Among them are aspects such as not going out in the hottest hours of the day; protecting oneself with hats, caps, or fans; drinking plenty of fluids even when not thirsty; wearing cool clothing; lowering blinds during the hottest hours and ventilating the house during the night and early hours of the day.
