The application period will extend until April 8, from 10:30 to 14:00 at the headquarters of the Delegation of Popular Traditions, on Campillos Street. As usual, the company Eroski will provide snacks for all participants.
With our great Holy Week just around the corner, in just a month for us to enjoy the unique and heartfelt display of our brotherhoods, it is time to learn about one of those news that the population has been eagerly awaiting for years, especially the little ones. As another tradition of Holy Week in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, the Saturday of Passion bursts onto the scene with the popular route of the «tronillos» (small processional floats).
On the next Saturday, April 12, one of the most beloved processions for the citizens and visitors will take place in the streets and squares of Vélez, who come from different parts of the region to savor the Easter Parade of «tronillos,» an event where the youngest neighbors dress in their best outfits to act as true fork bearers, penitents, or mantillas, in a Lenten exercise that has taken on an almost professional level in recent years. It is worth highlighting the work done by families, as well as the dedication and devotion shown by those who, in a few years, will become the main protagonists of our Holy Week, parading our images through every corner of the municipality.
This morning, a new edition of the Easter «tronillos» Contest was presented, which will take place on Saturday, April 12. The registration period for those interested in participating in this event is now open from today, Monday, March 17. The application deadline is April 8, and registration can be done from 10:30 to 14:00 at the headquarters of the Delegation of Popular Traditions, on Campillos Street.
«They experience it with the same intensity as the adults, they put in a lot of work and dedication, they enjoy the processional route, and they show us that they are ready to face, in the future, one of our most beloved traditions, a Holy Week that is nourished by all these children who demonstrate their enthusiasm and joy each year in parading our images,» highlighted the councilor of Popular Traditions, Lourdes Piña, at the opening of the contest, alongside Antonio Rivera, manager of the distribution company Eroski, a longtime collaborator in the initiative, providing snacks for all participants.
The municipal official praised «the feelings that children put into their parade, the way they walk the streets, how they carry the float, that emotion that you can even see on their faces,» however, «from a very young age, they live in their homes that brotherhood fervor that has made our city a reference point for Holy Week throughout Málaga,» which, ultimately, «has ended up consolidating our Lent and turning it into the best tourist showcase to attract visitors, and thereby show them all the attractions we can offer, which are many and varied.»
The representative of Eroski, Antonio Rivera, also wanted to highlight the idiosyncrasy of this activity, fully established as another reference point for what Holy Week means to all the residents of Vélez. «I must thank, first of all, both the City Council and the Council of Popular Traditions for counting on us, once again, in a beautiful initiative that fosters the brotherhood sentiment among our children and also helps keep alive a tradition as deeply rooted as Holy Week.»
In conclusion, Lourdes Piña made a call to «all those children who want to parade alongside the brotherhoods in the Holy Week of their city, because they will be able to be infected by a feeling and a way of understanding this great tradition that, over the years, will turn them into the true protagonists of Holy Week.»
