The City Council has called for the III edition of the International Poetry Prize ‘Marpoética’, which increases its amount from 20,000 to 26,000 euros. The General Director of Culture, Carmen Díaz, has emphasized that «it is one of the contests with the highest economic endowment and references in the country» and has announced that «authors will have three months to submit their works once published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Málaga (BOPMA)».
The municipal representative has highlighted that the new edition adds to the success of the two previous ones, which together counted nearly 3,200 poetry books submitted. Díaz has also valued the professional quality of the members who will form the jury this year, chaired by Antonio Colinas and with the members Olvido García Valdés, Julieta Valero, Antonio Lucas, Javier Vicedo and Carmen Díaz, in addition to Jesús García Sánchez, who will be the secretary without voting rights.
The General Director of Culture has emphasized that the winner of this edition, in addition to the economic amount received, will be able to publish their work in the Visor Poetry Collection, «the most important in terms of dissemination within this field at a national level for decades». Díaz has stressed that the award promoted by the City Council «was born in 2023 as a complement to the Marpoética Festival and with clear national and international relevance, as we have a lot of participation from authors in Hispanic America». The winner of the first edition was Felipe Reyes Benítez with the work ‘Los expedientes de la madrugada’, while in the second edition, the prize went to the poetry book ‘Consejos de economía doméstica para extremófilos’, by Nadia Fabo Andrés.
