The Infrastructure Department presented this morning the completion of the repair and conditioning works on various locations of this strategic road, one of the main arteries with high pedestrian and cyclist traffic in the municipality, connecting Vélez-Málaga with Torre del Mar and serving as a key communication hub for the Axarquía region.
The budget allocated for this project, crucial for many people who regularly use this section of the avenue, amounted to 45,000 euros, covering an area of 599 square meters. The project lasted for just over five months.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Infrastructure Department, announced today the completion of the pavement renewal works for pedestrian and bike lanes along Avenida Juan Carlos I in the municipality. This important project had been requested by the community in recent months due to the high influx of people in the area, given its essential role in connecting Vélez-Málaga with Torre del Mar, with numerous commercial areas nearby, the La Pañoleta industrial estate, and a vital link to the A-7 highway and the region’s communication network.
The strategic importance of this avenue and its location made it necessary to intervene in the pedestrian section, a route commonly used by pedestrians, cyclists, and runners. Councilor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, expressed satisfaction with the completion of a project that holds great significance for the municipality, as many people rely on this pedestrian route and adjacent bike lane for travel between Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, making it a fundamental artery between inland and coastal areas.
The repairs on the pedestrian section have long been requested by users, prompting quick and efficient action to bring about a significant improvement for regular users of this route. The technical execution, covering a total area of 599 square meters, reflects the scale and impact of the project, with a total investment of 45,000 euros over a slightly more than five-month period. The damage caused by trees, which led to the sinking and even elevation of the pavement in some areas, required precise work to rectify the issues accumulated over the years.
This project involved repairing the existing pavement by laying a layer of patterned concrete on areas with defects. Demarcation and signaling were done to ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety. Following that, the damaged pavement was removed, and after leveling the ground and forming the edges to differentiate spaces, a 12 cm layer of patterned HA-20 concrete was laid with the same texture and color as the existing one. In total, 88 actions were carried out on the east sidewalk and 78 on the west.
In conclusion, this significant project benefits a large part of the municipality’s population and strategically impacts a significant number of businesses within the productive fabric of Vélez-Málaga.
