The lineup of artists and personalities from the world of entertainment will be top-notch. Artists like flamenco singer «Arcangel», the winning chirigota from Cádiz «Los Calaítas», comedians José Luis Calero, Eva y Qué, and Pepe «El Caja», and many more, will parade through the Plaza de la Constitución on vibrant and emotional summer Fridays.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through a detailed coordinated effort between its Departments of Popular Traditions, Historic Center, Culture, and Youth, has orchestrated a lavish and surprising free program to provide our municipality with the most dazzling summer activities calendar in the history of the capital of Axarquía.
The current local Government has set out to create a schedule of initiatives, shows, and events of all kinds at the level that the fourth largest municipal population in the province of Málaga deserves, and, for this purpose, has been working for weeks on a line of projects that will undoubtedly encourage all our residents and visitors to enjoy summer vacations like never before, with all the ingredients for unforgettable experiences. It will be the summer that Vélez-Málaga has always dreamed of.
A multitude of cultural, musical, and sports activities and meeting points are crowded into the roadmap of the hottest months of the year for the enjoyment of all our residents and visitors. Proposals like «SUMMER 2025», «At the foot of the Wall», jazz concerts in local venues like MVVEL or CAC, «Get to know Vélez», the historic night race in Vélez-Málaga, and many more surprises will take over daily life in Vélez to delight our citizens with everything they need for a summer full of magic and joyful coexistence filled with unforgettable moments. To put the finishing touch with golden letters, the highlight of the season will arrive on August 30, with a new edition full of symbolism and essence in the purest local style with the celebration of Noche en Vela, which will serve as the grand finale to «a summer that we will always remember», as stated with evident enthusiasm by the mayor of the municipality, Jesús Lupiáñez.
The mayor of Vélez has appeared in one of the program’s main axes, the Plaza de la Constitución, alongside the Councilor of Popular Traditions, Lourdes Piña, the Councilor of the Historic Center, Juan Fernández Olmo, and the Councilor of Culture, Alicia Ramírez, to announce a varied and inexhaustible repertoire of events and appointments for all audiences and ages, with the expectation of achieving «great levels of participation and that all our residents, visitors, and tourists will engage in each of the initiatives that we are going to carry out,» emphasized the local mayor, who expressed his «responsibility and great enthusiasm for being able to stage everything we have prepared, which I am sure the population will take full advantage of and reaffirm our commitment to the revitalization of our streets and the Historic Center of the city.»
Lupiáñez, and the other municipal representatives, have expressed their considerable «satisfaction» for «what is to come,» emphasized the leader, which is nothing less than «a program with everything necessary and more for our residents to see their demands and requests related to the cultural leisure of the municipality satisfied,» which, in the summer of 2025, «will mark a before and after for all of us, I am convinced,» because «we have made a considerable effort, with special mention to the excellent coordination of all the Municipal Departments, to ensure that not a single detail is missing to enjoy a summer filled with experiences and memories. For the first time, we will experience a magnificent calendar of summer activities in Vélez-Málaga, to which the numerous festivities that take place during this time in the different neighborhoods and areas of our municipal term will be added, where residents join with full dedication and commitment in an admirable contribution to bring life to every corner of the municipality,» he emphasized.
Historical Calendar
The fire will be lit today with the show «Damas de Noche», an interesting gathering around poetry and music in the incomparable neighborhood of «La Villa», specifically in the Plaza de El Espinar. The evening will be repeated in July and August in the settings of Calle Poeta Joaquín Lobato, next to the statue, and in the gardens of Santa María.
This Friday kicks off one of the events that will leave us with unique moments, «At the foot of the wall», which will bring a diverse range of activities including flamenco and copla sessions, Carnival nights, hilarious humor, the DJs of the moment, or shows for the little ones in a beautiful children’s evening. Artists like flamenco singer «Arcangel» will parade through the central square of Vélez in a new edition of the Flamenco Festival «Juan Breva»; the chirigota that won first prize in the Cadiz Carnival, the authentic Cadiz art of «Los Calaítas»; or the humor of José Luis Calero, Eva y Qué, and Pepe «El Caja», in a vibrant night of monologues. The Plaza de la Constitución will be a clamor of various artistic expressions every summer Friday, with high doses of pure talent as the norm.
The schedule of festivities will kick off strongly on Saturday in the Plaza de La India, hosted by the Sepulcro brotherhood. Endearing and beloved events for our residents will take place in July and August, with a clear focus on our brotherhoods, fraternities, and associations, to the delight of the local and visiting population.
The highest standard of technical music and virtuosity will arrive with jazz concerts at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) «Francisco Hernández» and at the Vélez-Málaga Museum (MVVEL). The first of the marked dates is July 2 at the CAC. The musical program will also include the cycle of concerts of a prestigious event, the International Guitar Festival, on the stages of El Carmen and the Palacio de Beniel with its sensitive acoustics. A special date, July 3, will feature the Flamenco Biennial of the Provincial Council, with the extraordinary performance of Antón Martín on flamenco piano.
Activities aimed at all our population centers will include cooking workshops, summer cinema sessions, and children’s animations spread throughout the municipality. In July and August, «Let’s go to the movies» will offer free invitations to our youngest residents for film screenings at Cinesur El Ingenio. All this under the sensational «SUMMER 2025» program of the Youth Department.
Moments of approaching the scenic beauty and rich heritage of Vélez-Málaga will not cease during the summer, with five editions of the popular «Get to know Vélez» scheduled where we will experience the special atmosphere of the night in places like Santa María, San Juan de Dios, or Casa Cervantes, among others. The sports segment will be led by the night race through our urban and monumental environment, which, as every year, will bring together a significant group of runners ready to give their all under the cloak of our Historic Center, in an interesting and groundbreaking route for this 7th edition. Remember, «Run your History».
The deployment of high-level events, cultural activities, commitment to our history and tradition, leisure, and fun for all ages will be unprecedented in the coming months. In addition to the numerous initiatives mentioned, there will be zarzuela evenings, the essential concerts of the Municipal Music Band, chamber orchestras, the Mardanis Sephardic rhythms group… all set in the best scene that can be found, that projected by our magnificent monumental and heritage sites, in a multidisciplinary effort that will leave a mark on the hearts of the residents and visitors of Vélez-Málaga. At the end of this stage, they will put an end to the festivities with an event in line with the events: the Closure of SUMMER 2025, in María Zambrano Park, and, as it could not be otherwise, the grand Night in Vela on August 30th of a summer with exceptional shades.
