The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has provided an update on various strategic projects essential for the municipality’s development. These projects include completed actions vital for the city and ongoing initiatives crucial for the well-being of the residents. Lupiáñez emphasized the importance of projects like the A-356 duplication, the A-7 semi-interchange in Caleta de Vélez, the anticipated coastal train, and the integration of Vélez-Málaga into the Málaga Metropolitan Transport Consortium network to enhance communication with other areas in the province.
One of the most significant projects highlighted by Lupiáñez is the A-356 duplication, a long-awaited demand due to the high traffic congestion on this essential communication route. Recent findings of archaeological sites along the proposed route have caused delays in the project process. However, a detailed report has confirmed the absence of archaeological remains, allowing the project to move forward. Lupiáñez stressed the importance of executing the new route on the other side for the common good.
Regarding the crucial developments, Lupiáñez, supported by the Councilor of Urbanism and Transportation, Celestino Rivas, mentioned the completion of actions to ease traffic congestion, such as the first phase of the Camino de Torrox reurbanization. The second phase, currently in the bidding process, will involve the duplication of the road towards Caleta and the integration of a bike lane to the population center, a significant advancement for the municipality.
In terms of Infrastructure and Mobility, Lupiáñez discussed the A-7 semi-interchange in Caleta de Vélez, aiming to simplify access to the highway from the residential area. Lupiáñez emphasized the importance of expediting the approval process to establish this crucial connection for the municipality’s interconnection.
Other essential projects include the coastal train from Nerja to Algeciras and the inclusion of Vélez-Málaga in the Metropolitan Transport Consortium, both crucial for the city’s communication network. Lupiáñez highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure Vélez-Málaga’s inclusion in the Consortium to enhance transportation for residents and visitors.
