The councillor for the Area, Jesús María Claros, has announced the completion of the public lighting renovation works on the road connecting the Remanente roundabout with the Virgen de la Inmaculada roundabout, as well as on Historiador Francisco Montoro and Alcalde Juan Barranquero streets.
This action reinforces the local government’s commitment to installing new low-consumption lighting units, reducing electricity costs, and using renewable energy sources for municipal supply, schools, and public lighting.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Infrastructure Department, has been working since the beginning of the term towards renovating and equipping new facilities and carrying out various actions to improve different locations in the municipality. In this regard, the municipal Area’s responsible, Jesús María Claros, has announced the completion of the public lighting refurbishment works on the road connecting the Remanente roundabout to the Virgen de la Inmaculada roundabout, specifically the access section to the city from the A-356.
In addition to this intervention, which is one of many necessary interventions to improve accessibility and pedestrian traffic in various areas of the town, an identical lighting renovation action has been added on Alcalde Juan Barranquero and Historiador Francisco Montoro streets. «These were two important projects for the residents of the area,» highlighted Claros, emphasizing that this modification focused on installing new luminaires that guarantee lower electricity consumption than the previous lighting fixtures. The total cost amounts to 27,724 euros.
The work carried out in the mentioned locations consists of adapting 67 new Ampera EVO3 units of 60LED 800mA WW730 flat glass optics 5397AS. 27 luminaires will be distributed from the A-356 roundabout, 8 on the Remanente road, 27 on Historiador Francisco Montoro street, and the remaining 5 on Alcalde Juan Barranquero street. The Infrastructure councillor has highlighted the work done by the operational services of the Delegation, both in the execution of this public lighting renovation and «in all those initiatives carried out in terms of lighting and other interventions according to the demands and needs that our residents present to us,» reminding that «we are at their disposal for any issues they may encounter in their daily routine.»
Municipal Savings
The Infrastructure Department has been acting in recent months with a clear focus on electricity consumption savings. In the same line of work, public lighting renovations in the Los Puntales and Vistamar urbanizations (Caleta de Vélez) are already in progress, with a similar intervention completed in the Condemar urbanization (Chilches).
In this regard, a new supply contract was signed recently for the City Council, municipal facilities, schools, and public lighting, which will result in a reduction of nearly 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, opting for 100% renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydroelectric. The commitment from the Government team is total towards enhancing energy savings and eliminating polluting emissions.
