Inicio del Plan de Desinsectación en Vélez-Málaga 2025

The Councilor for Historic Center and Health, Juan Fernández Olmo, has reported the start of insect control activities throughout the municipality, through a procedure that began last March and will take place sequentially and continuously in all populated areas, segmented into coastal and inland regions. Interventions will be carried out, with subsequent repetitions, in all locations until October. Throughout this plan, calls and notifications from residents regarding the presence of cockroaches and other insect species will be taken into account.

The Councilor for Historic Center and Health of the Department of Environment of the City Council of Vélez-Málaga, Juan Fernández Olmo, informed this morning that the Municipality’s Insect Control Plan for 2025 has already begun, with a series of continuous actions that will be repeated over time in different locations of the municipality. This comprehensive intervention highlights the firm and ongoing commitment of the local government since the beginning of the term to the cleanliness and maintenance of all our environments. In the same vein, the operational services concluded the rat control program last March, with tasks carried out from October to March in both inland and coastal areas.

The municipal official visited the neighborhood of Arroyo San Sebastián this morning, one of the locations where intensive insect control work, specifically aimed at the cockroach population, will begin in the coming days. To carry out these tasks, a coordinated effort between environmental and cleaning staff will be made to minimize inconvenience to residents, as emphasized by Fernández Olmo.

Regarding the effectiveness of the insect control plan, the municipal delegate stressed the need to address a problem that, if not dealt with in a timely manner, can have serious repercussions for the streets and squares of our city. Therefore, actions have been taken in all areas of the municipality to address this issue. Insect elimination activities have already been carried out in recent weeks, including in Torre del Mar. The comprehensive action continues in the coastal area and will also intervene in the main core and other inland populated areas. «We address daily any issues that arise to provide our Historic Center and the rest of the municipality with a revitalization that facilitates the best living conditions for our residents. I must highlight the great effort made by the operational services every day to ensure that the entire municipality is in perfect condition for community life,» emphasized the councilor.

From a technical standpoint, the Environmental Department’s services will focus on public sanitation networks and lighting areas, with designated personnel continuously and repeatedly working from March to October in all city locations. «Regular inspections are necessary to prevent insect population reproductions in the action areas,» clarified the municipal official.

Collaboration with residents

The Councilor for Historic Center, Juan Fernández Olmo, met with representatives of the Gloria and Historic Center neighborhood association during his visit to Arroyo San Sebastián to explain the actions being carried out in this area regarding rat and insect control. He also discussed any issues that may require intervention, making himself available to address the demands presented by residents, which is a top priority for the local government in this location as well as in other areas of the municipality.
