Instalación de cámaras de video vigilancia para mejorar seguridad en Vélez-Málaga

The installation of the first 10 units of video surveillance cameras has begun in strategic areas of the city, taking into account factors such as criminal incidents, traffic flow, and congestion. The intelligent management system will be deployed in the core of Vélez-Málaga, with the cameras being fixed in place for Semana Santa before being distributed to various locations in the municipality.

This initiative, a result of the consensus reached by the Social Council of the City, represents a significant step towards addressing potential situations in the municipal area. The arrival of Semana Santa 2025 in Vélez-Málaga, a renowned festival in the municipality, has prompted various actions by the local government in preparation for this important event. One of the latest proposals approved in collaboration with the Social Council of the City is the installation of the first ten traffic surveillance cameras, aimed at ensuring comprehensive control of local security and traffic circulation.

Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez has emphasized the value of this agreement, highlighting that it was reached through consensus among the various stakeholders of the Social Council of the City. The new security system aims to efficiently manage urban traffic by acquiring recording units to monitor potential incidents in strategic locations throughout the municipality. The installation of the cameras will focus on areas with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic, forming an intelligent traffic surveillance service.

This measure demonstrates the current government’s commitment to creating a safer city through a monitoring system that can address incidents or criminal activities in the areas under camera surveillance. The selection of camera locations will prioritize sites most affected by traffic congestion, as well as areas sensitive to potential traffic incidents or accidents, following technical guidelines.

The new video surveillance devices will be progressively deployed in the coming weeks, starting in Vélez-Málaga, where they will be operational in time for Semana Santa. The implementation of this measure was approved by the Social Council of Vélez-Málaga as part of the 2023 budget, allocating €50,000 for the purchase and installation of cameras, as well as the acquisition of software programs to support security forces in addressing detected issues.

This initiative reaffirms the municipality’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safe and smooth daily life of its residents through comprehensive traffic control and monitoring. Police Chief Rafael Mora has praised the new security system for its potential to enhance the efficiency of police operations and contribute to public safety.

The Social Council of Vélez-Málaga, composed of various municipal political groups and community organizations, plays a vital role in promoting citizen participation in municipal affairs and projects, fostering a strong connection between residents and the local government.
