The Municipal Buildings Councilor, Jesús María Claros, and the Education Councilor, Lourdes Piña, revealed this morning a positive piece of news for the educational community of Vélez-Málaga. The councilors visited the CEIP Augusto Santiago Bellido to announce, alongside the director, Natalia Ortiz, the installation of new air conditioning systems in this complex, following the same approach at the CEIP Axarquía and Juan Porras de Triana.
The integration of the new equipment will begin next week, allowing the schools to incorporate the new units with heat pumps and state-of-the-art systems in the near future. Students and teachers will benefit from these in activities held in some environments during the summer period, and throughout the school year 2025-26. The CEIP Axarquía and Juan Porras already received a supply of these infrastructures in recent months, so the new additions will reinforce the previous batch of equipment, providing coverage to a greater number of classrooms and spaces in the buildings.
The total investment in these two interventions amounts to 16,719 euros, and is part of the municipal plan to improve environmental conditions in public educational centers, with special attention to spaces dedicated to students with special educational needs. With this measure, as highlighted by Jesús María Claros, «we reinforce the commitment of this Government team to education, by installing new efficient and sustainable air conditioning systems in preschool, primary, and special education classrooms, addressing the priority needs of schools and promoting the well-being of students throughout the municipality.» This ambitious action plan allows «to equip the different school classrooms with very necessary, modern, and efficient infrastructures,» emphasized the municipal councilor, ensuring that «the appropriate standards are available for minors to attend classes and for teachers to carry out their essential work.»
The Municipal Buildings Councilor reiterated that with this plan, «we take a step further in our commitment to invest in quality education, caring for both students and teaching staff. Additionally, this project demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, by choosing highly efficient equipment that contributes to environmental care,» he added.
In terms of the technical qualifications of the equipment, it is state-of-the-art technology, with a heat pump to ensure comfort throughout the year, and meets the highest energy efficiency standards. At the CEIP Augusto Santiago Bellido, 12 units of inverter heat pump air conditioning will be installed, with energy efficiency rating A+++, six of them wall-mounted split units with a 4,500 BTU capacity, three with 3,500 BTU, and three with 2,500 BTU. On the other hand, the CEIP Axarquía and Juan Porras have received the installation of two and one unit of 3,500 BTU, respectively.
Lourdes Piña, Education Councilor, highlighted the highly positive nature of the project «in order to meet the needs that our schools demand,» which she describes as a «top priority» and, in the case of these new acquisitions, «a step further in our work for the community and, in this case, for education, which has been ongoing since we began the first phase of installing these devices to provide the best infrastructures to our schools and those that are part of the local educational community.»
The director, Natalia Ortiz, expressed her gratitude to the Municipal Buildings and Education Councils, extending it to the Vélez-Málaga City Council, «for caring about the well-being of the students at our center, who with these installations will receive extensive heating and cooling coverage. They are always very attentive to all our demands.»
The actions at the CEIP Augusto Santiago Bellido, Axarquía, and Juan Porras add to others recently carried out at the Axarquía and the CEIP Las Naciones, and join those already received before the 2024 Christmas period and in recent months. In total, around a hundred air conditioning units with heat pumps and energy efficiency rating A+++ have been integrated into fifteen schools in the locality, including the CEIP Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (South Zone), CEIP Juan Herrera Alcausa, CEIP Vicente Aleixandre, and CEIP Custodio Puga in Torre del Mar, CEIP San Faustino in Benajarafe, CEIP Genaro Rincón in Caleta de Vélez, CEIP Torrejaral in Cajiz, Valle-Niza, and the Juan Porras de Triana.
