The prestigious contest highlights, even more so, the figure of the distinguished local creator, who throughout his artistic career has projected our municipality at a national and international level. The deadline for submitting works is Thursday, August 14th, through the electronic registration of the Diputación de Málaga, where you can access the contest rules and other options to submit the entry. The competition has a cash prize of 4,500 euros, to be distributed among the top three winners.

The jury of the contest will make a preselection of the received works for their exhibition from September 22nd to October 19th, 2025, at the San Francisco Convent in Vélez-Málaga.

The Department of Culture of the Vélez-Málaga City Council hosts a new edition of the "Evaristo Guerra" Painting Contest, a prominent activity that pays tribute to the local artist, an innate talent and a reference in the provincial and national/international cultural scene. The City Council and the Provincial Government of Málaga collaborate and promote an initiative that recognizes artists from around the world for their reputation and prestige. The deadline for submissions is open until August 14th. The contest offers a cash prize of 4,500 euros, to be divided among the three winning works.

The 15th edition of the "Evaristo Guerra" Painting Award recalls and highlights the great trajectory of the Vélez-Málaga artist, a great promoter of the town and who has raised the artistic quality of the municipality. In 2025, this award has a cash prize of 3,000 euros for the first prize, 1,000 euros for the runner-up, and 500 euros for the second runner-up, in addition to the honor of receiving the recognition of a classic and honorable initiative in the Axarquía cultural scene.

This Monday, the Councilor of Culture of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Alicia Ramírez, together with Evaristo Guerra himself, presented the event’s characteristics and encouraged "all local and regional artists to participate and demonstrate their talent in this classic contest."

"We are here today to remember and promote the artistic career of a great local talent, who will be honored once again through a contest that enhances local talent, encourages the discovery of young artists, and reaffirms the image of Evaristo, a Vélez-Málaga native who has put the name of Vélez-Málaga on the national and international scene," expressed the Culture Councilor, Alicia Ramírez, who encouraged "all artists to showcase their talent. It is a great opportunity to discover young talents who may achieve great success and promote the name of the municipality beyond our land, as Evaristo has done for decades."

Evaristo Guerra thanked the Vélez-Málaga City Council and the Provincial Government of Málaga for their "commitment and tremendous effort to promote local talent and develop art activities. In the case of Vélez-Málaga, we have a great cultural program that supports great artists and allows residents and visitors to enjoy an increasingly emerging and representative local talent at a provincial and even national level," emphasized the author.

"It is an honor to have a contest with my name; we are talking about a very interesting activity, very well-organized and executed, and we hope there will be many more, always in collaboration with the City Council and the Provincial Government," added Evaristo Guerra.
