La Escuela Municipal de Actividades Náuticas comienza el 30 de junio con un programa diverso para todas las edades, destacando el mar.

One of the most significant references of our attractive landscape in the eyes of the many tourists and visitors who come to Vélez-Málaga are our beaches and the unique beauty of our Mediterranean Sea, which hosts a multitude of sports activities and competitions almost every weekend, where our citizens are often protagonists of numerous successes in sports such as sailing, swimming, or regattas.

A key focus in the development of our talent pool is the Municipal School of Nautical Activities, which in this summer season expands its offerings with new courses at affordable prices for the entire population. The deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, the sports councilor, Manuel Gutiérrez, the beaches councilor, David Vilches, and the president of the Torre del Mar Yacht Club, Guillermo Cao, officially announced this morning at the club’s premises the new season of the Municipal School of Nautical Activities, which will run from June 30 to September 5, with an expanded program of courses designed for all audiences and at particularly affordable prices.

Jesús Pérez Atencia, at the opening of the presentation, highlighted the start of a new season of the Municipal School of Nautical Activities, which «consolidates our commitment to providing a healthy, accessible, and tailored leisure offering for all audiences during the summer, in a privileged environment such as our bay.» In this sense, the councilor emphasized that «we reinforce the role of Torre del Mar as an active tourist destination, where in addition to sun and beach, residents and visitors can enjoy water sports such as windsurfing, paddle surfing, kayaking, sailing, or rowing, all led by qualified professionals.»

This year, in addition, the deputy mayor highlighted that «we are expanding the program with more activities and new modalities such as fixed-seat rowing, a discipline on the rise that will have weekly courses and adds appeal to a school that was already a success last summer,» Pérez Atencia expressed, highlighting «the magnificent facilities of the Yacht Club, a reference space for promoting healthy habits, sports training, and enjoying the sea. We invite all families, young people, and water sports enthusiasts to approach, enjoy, and participate in this proposal that makes Torre del Mar a prominent point for nautical tourism on the Costa del Sol, focusing on quality, sport, and health,» he concluded.

«The main objective is to continue cultivating a growing sports sector in Vélez-Málaga that each year sows to create a true breeding ground for champions, with athletes of all ages achieving excellent results in events and competitions held throughout Andalusia, Spain, and internationally,» expressed Manuel Gutiérrez, sports councilor, who is «very proud of the role our residents play in every sporting event, carrying the name of Vélez-Málaga proudly everywhere.»

During the presentation, the public, accessible, and popular nature of this initiative was highlighted, whose objective is to «bring nautical sports to the public in an inclusive and economical way, promoting the participation of residents of the municipality and the entire Axarquía region,» praised the responsible councilor, with a special mention of the good work of the Torre del Mar Yacht Club, «which has the human capital, technical expertise, and resources for the optimal development of the Municipal School of Nautical Activities, guaranteeing quality, safety, and effectiveness in teaching.»

The beaches councilor, David Vilches, also expressed his joy at the celebration once again of these activities, «in an unbeatable location such as the beaches of our municipality, in this case Torre del Mar,» which will take place «thanks to the work of the Yacht Club, a benchmark in this type of initiative and which has our full collaboration in each action they undertake, such as the camps that take place in the summer months. I hope our residents attend an event of this magnitude,» the councilor appealed.

Guillermo Cao, head of the Yacht Club, thanked «the support of the municipal team and the local population in every initiative we organize, they do it fantastically and we always find backing. The involvement of the City Council and the Deputy Mayor’s Office allows us to demonstrate that nautical sports are not elitist, they are accessible to all citizens and visitors, everyone can see that it is an inexpensive sport and that it can be greatly enjoyed in this beautiful setting that is our coastline,» he emphasized.

One of the most notable novelties of the past summer season in 2024 was the return of the school to the facilities of the Torre del Mar Yacht Club, which allowed for the improvement of resources and infrastructure, and successfully introduced courses such as optimist (sailing initiation for children) and light sailing for adults.

A Diverse 2025

In 2025, the program takes a step further with the addition of fixed-seat rowing, an increasingly demanded sport, which will be offered in weekly courses from Monday to Friday in the early morning. This new activity is added to the existing offering and is designed for those who want to try rowing for the first time as well as those looking for a healthy and different activity in the coastal environment.

The lineup for the summer of 2025 includes variations such as windsurfing (initiation and improvement levels), paddle surfing, kayaking, optimist (beginner children’s sailing), light sailing (adults), and fixed-seat rowing. All courses are taught by specialized instructors, in small groups, and at very affordable prices, so that access is within reach of as many people as possible, especially families, young people, and local enthusiasts. Registrations are already open and can be made at the office of the Torre del Mar Yacht Club, the official headquarters of the Municipal School of Nautical Activities, or through its website www.clubnauticotorredelmar.es.
