The Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, has announced that the level crossing over the train lines on the A-380 road, at the entrance of Marchena, will be eliminated, with the construction of a bypass that diverts traffic from this point. Rocío Díaz has stated in the Andalusian Parliament that the signing of a collaboration protocol with the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) for the construction of this new road is imminent, which will provide more safety and peace of mind to users of this route.
Rocío Díaz recalled that this level crossing, located just a hundred meters from the train station in Marchena, was classified as dangerous by ADIF in 2008. Despite this danger and the increasing traffic, she stated that «for a decade, previous governments did not implement any actions.»
In this regard, the Minister of Development pointed out that the government of Juanma Moreno «took on the responsibility and the need to find a solution» to a demand that the residents of Marchena had been requesting for years. The Minister of Development also noted that, since 2021, numerous meetings have been held between the Junta de Andalucía and ADIF, which have intensified this year leading to the upcoming signing of a collaboration protocol for the elimination of this level crossing on the A-380 road between Carmona and Marchena.
The solution chosen, as Rocío Díaz has announced, will be «the construction of a bypass over two kilometers long,» diverting the main traffic from this dangerous point. «We will build a new road that will provide a much safer route for the residents of Marchena and the drivers on this route,» she stated. In this sense, the protocol includes the drafting of the project and the execution of the works, with funding shared equally (50%) between the two administrations.
ADIF’s legal services are currently working on the relevant reports for the draft of this protocol to proceed with its signing. From there, ADIF will start the drafting of the construction project as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing has shown its full willingness to collaborate with ADIF in the elimination of this level crossing. The current Andalusian government has held meetings in recent years to resume the project, pending ADIF presenting a construction project. With the signing of the collaboration protocol, this wait will be resolved, and a viable alternative for the elimination of this level crossing over the train tracks will be addressed.
The A-380 road belongs to the Andalusian Road Network, with the Junta de Andalucía being the owner. This road crosses the town of Marchena, resulting in a long journey. At kilometer 15.6, at the entrance to the town of Marchena from Carmona, there is this level crossing over the railway line Sevilla-Málaga. This level crossing is located in an urban area with consolidated buildings, partly on the margins of the A-380 road, and is also about a hundred meters from the Marchena train station.
