La licitación oficial de obra pública en Andalucía se cuadriplicó en mayo alcanzando los 820,7 millones de euros.

The official public works tender in Andalusia quadrupled last May to reach 820.7 million euros. This figure represents a 296.8% year-on-year increase, compared to 28.6% recorded by the country as a whole, as stated by the Minister of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, Carolina España, who highlighted the effort of the Andalusian Government as the administration that carried out the highest volume of tendering, accounting for 80.5% of the total.

According to the latest data provided by the General Secretariat of Economy of the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and European Funds based on the report from the Association of Construction and Infrastructure Concession Companies in Spain (SEOPAN), in the first five months of 2025, official tendering in Andalusia reached 2,247.7 million. This is the highest figure for this period since 2009, with a 109.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, four times higher than in Spain (25.8%).

Regarding public tendering in May, the largest effort came from the Andalusian Government, with a tender amounting to 660.9 million euros, representing 80.5% of the total tendered and a significant increase compared to the previous May. Following them are the Local Administration (131.2 million euros with a 6.3% year-on-year growth), while the Central Administration took on projects worth 28.7 million euros, a 25.8% year-on-year decrease.

In terms of the type of work, building construction represents the bulk of the tendering in May, with 713.8 million euros, compared to the 106.9 million accounted for by civil engineering. In this regard, the year-on-year growth for building construction during the January-May period increased by 164.3%, compared to the 75.1% recorded for civil engineering.

The highest regional industrial production growth

On the other hand, the Industrial Production Index of Andalusia (IPIAN) recorded the largest increase of all autonomous communities in May, with a 6.3% year-on-year growth standing out in a national decline context, (-0.8%). With seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, the IPIAN increased by 8.1% year-on-year, 6.4 points higher than the national level (1.7%).

The General Secretariat of Economy confirms that, cumulatively, in the first five months of the year, industrial production in Andalusia grew by 4.6% year-on-year, in a context of slight decline nationally (-0.5%). Once adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the growth rises to 5.6%, contrasting with zero growth in Spain (0%).

The increase in May was widespread across sectors, with a notable performance from the manufacturing industry, contributing 2.31 points to the overall index after growing by 3.2% year-on-year, amidst a national decline (-1.3%). Additionally, the metallurgy sector recorded a 39.5% increase in that month, with an impact of 0.98 points.

For the Minister of Economy, «month after month, the positive performance of economic activity indicators is confirmed, positioning Andalusia as one of the economic engines of Spain and demonstrating a greater weight of industrial companies and businesses carrying out projects in our land». Carolina España also emphasized that this diversification of productive activity «is essential to boost the economic growth of Andalusia, create jobs, and generate wealth for all Andalusians.»
