The event will take place on April 26th, starting at 10 in the morning, on the beaches of Las Palmeras.
The deputy mayor of La Caleta de Vélez, David Segura, presented on Wednesday morning a traditional Chalanas Regatta scheduled for April 26th on the beach of Las Palmeras in the town. He did so alongside the president of the Faro de Torre del Mar Rowing Club, Expedito Cruz, who detailed how the event will unfold.
David Segura, Deputy Mayor of La Caleta de Vélez, announced the return of the regatta to the beaches of the municipality, emphasizing the significance of this event for the town. «Good morning. First of all, I want to thank the media for being here, as well as Jesús Pérez Atencia, First Deputy Mayor, and Expedito Cruz, President of the Rowing Club of Torre del Mar,» Segura began.
«Today, the people of La Caleta are in luck as we announce the return of regattas to our town. This event will be the first Grand Prix of the Provincial Chalanas League in our province of Malaga since the 80s. It has been about 40 years since a regatta was last held on our beaches, and it is an honor to bring it back,» added the Deputy Mayor.
The event will take place on April 26th, starting at 10 in the morning, on the beaches of Las Palmeras. This will be a significant event for all lovers of water sports.
«I want to express my gratitude to the Rowing Club, not only for their willingness but also for their commitment to making this regatta happen in La Caleta. It is important to remember the seafaring tradition of our town, and undoubtedly, this event will be a new showcase of that tradition,» highlighted Segura.
«Furthermore, I want to emphasize the contribution of the Rowing Club throughout this term, especially with the creation of the Fishing Interpretation Center, which is one of the most important initiatives for us. It is an honor to have such a close and committed club,» added the Deputy Mayor.
Segura also underlined the interest that this event has sparked among the residents of La Caleta, who have shown great enthusiasm for the return of the regatta to their town. «It would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of the Rowing Club of Torre del Mar. I want to especially thank Expedito Cruz, President of the Club, and his entire board for their open arms and constant collaboration,» concluded David Segura, showing his excitement and pride in announcing the return of this event to La Caleta.
Finally, Segura announced that the technical details of the event will be revealed soon by the Rowing Club itself and extended an invitation to all residents to attend this important event. «Today is a very important day for me as Deputy Mayor of La Caleta, and I am very proud and excited to announce that the regatta is coming back to our town,» he concluded.
Expedito Cruz, on his part, emphasized the importance of this event for the municipality and for rowing enthusiasts. «Since the 80s, there hasn’t been a regatta in La Caleta de Vélez, so bringing it back and making it available to everyone so that we can enjoy traditional boats like the chalana in the water is very beautiful and will undoubtedly be an important event for all,» added Cruz.
The Chalanas League, to be held as part of this event, will focus mainly on the junior categories, with the aim of promoting youth rowing. Cruz explained that this league is a crucial step for young rowers aspiring to reach the jábega boat league. «The Chalanas League is focused on junior rowing and the lower categories, as we believe it is a fundamental learning experience for the youth. It will be centered on children’s, male and female cadet, and male and female junior categories,» explained the Club President.
The league will conclude with the absolute categories, both in female and male, representing the highest goal for rowers. «It will end with the queen category, which is the female and male absolute, the goal of every rower. As in all sports, the dream is to debut in the main team of their town, in this case, in the chalana team,» added Cruz.
The event will feature a circuit of four tests, starting on April 26th and May 10th, with two additional tests confirmed for after the summer, once the jábega league is completed.
«The Rowing Club of Torre del Mar is very proud to have finally succeeded in pushing forward this league that we have been pursuing for years. We invite everyone to come to the beaches and enjoy this unique and different spectacle,» concluded Cruz, inviting everyone to participate in this great event.
