The Centro de Estudios Andaluces Foundation (Centra) has presented the XIII edition of the Research Projects Call, corresponding to the period 2025-2027, with the objective of promoting and making visible those research projects whose themes are included in the Foundation’s priority lines and whose scientific results provide effective, sustainable, and equitable responses to specific challenges or generate original and innovative scientific knowledge about Andalusia.
From June 18 to July 7 (at 2:00 p.m.), the deadline is open to participate in this new call, which projects from researchers and research groups from public or private universities, public research institutions, foundations, hospitals, as well as researchers from non-profit private organizations based in Spain, can apply to.
One of the main innovations of this edition is the significant increase in the economic allocation for selected projects. Projects with a maximum duration of 18 months can be funded with up to 30,000 euros, compared to the 12,000 euros in the previous call; and projects with a maximum of 24 months can be funded with 60,000 euros, 10,000 euros more than in the 2022-2024 edition. This increase in budget allocation reflects the commitment of the Centra Foundation to strengthening excellent research and its effective transfer to Andalusian society.
Likewise, in line with the previous call, there is a focus on incorporating young and multigenerational profiles into the work teams. The mandatory requirement to participate is the inclusion of researchers in training to promote their training, employability, and professional projection.
New research lines and adaptation to the current context
The call also updates its priority thematic lines to address the emerging challenges faced by Andalusia, both locally and globally. The strategic areas are:
- Social trends, demographics, and quality of life in Andalusia
- Sustainability and ecology in Andalusia
- Democracy and governance in Andalusia
- Regionalism, decentralization, and autonomy. The territorial and political-administrative configuration of Andalusia: identity, thought, and political action of the precursors of the Andalusian autonomous community’s constitution
- Andalusia: Innovation and leadership in History, Culture, and Heritage
In the field of Social Sciences, priority will be given to innovative and transdisciplinary projects, based on empirical evidence and with the ability to anticipate future scenarios that drive social and technological transformation in the region.
Regarding the Humanities area, which is introduced as a novelty, the aim is to promote research that positions Andalusia as a reference in scientific innovation and knowledge transfer, through historiographical contributions on strategic topics in the European and Latin American context.
New evaluation criteria and commitment to Open Science
Another novelty of the XIII Public Call for Research Projects is the redefinition of evaluation criteria for the qualification of different projects based on scientific excellence and methodological robustness, the impact on the region, and the project’s feasibility.
In line with the previous edition and the commitments of the 2030 Agenda, there is a special emphasis on the promotion of Open Science through the promotion and implementation of practices that foster multilingualism in scientific dissemination and knowledge accessibility, as well as through the coordination and optimization of available human and economic resources.
Since 2005, the Centro de Estudios Andaluces has funded 213 research projects that have resulted in an investment of over four million euros. In addition to the Projects Call, the Centro de Estudios Andaluces promotes research through other initiatives, including training personnel through Specialization Courses in Social Sciences, the Doctoral Thesis Award call, and the organization of workshops, seminars, and scientific events linked to knowledge transfer.
