Great news for Marta Ortega. The captain of Unicaja Mijas has been recognized at the XVII Gala del Deporte de Mijas with the award for ‘Best Female Athlete’ of the town, where the player comes from. The event, organized by Mijas Comunicación with the collaboration of the Mijas City Council, took place this Wednesday at the Teatro Manuel España in Las Lagunas.

 

The Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, presented the award to Marta Ortega, one of the key players in the outstanding performance of Unicaja Mijas in the Liga Femenina Challenge, a team that reached the final of the Final Four, falling just one victory short of promotion to Liga Femenina Endesa, the highest category in women’s basketball.

 

The other awardees were as follows:

  • Best Male Athlete: Iván Verdugo (Athletics).
  • Male Promise: Hugo Alarcón (Motocross).
  • Female Promise: Alassane Diop (Volleyball).
  • Adapted Sports: Kenneth Iversjo (Boccia Player).
  • Sponsor: Dak Burger and Dentalcer.
  • Organization: Adefu and Inarpe (Football).
  • Career: Mainake 50th anniversary (Speleology).
  • Antonio García Rayo Award: CP Mijas Las Lagunas B.
  • Sports Promotion: Club Atletismo Mijas.
  • Special Mention: Mijas cadet female and Mijas alevín female, Andalusian champions in handball.
